MISS SAMANTHA BEHAN

July 1, 2017

To Whom it May Concern:

I am writing to express my interest in the elementary education teacher position within your school district.
At present, I have completed my Bachelor of Science degree in Early Level Education at the University of
Pittsburgh at Bradford. I am currently in the process of completing certification add on for grades 5 and 6.
Throughout my studies I have developed the skills necessary to be an effective teacher in the
Prekindergarten to Grade 4 classroom.

I feel I am suitable for this position based on my communication skills, classroom management skills, and
my several teaching experiences. I have experience working in classrooms in the Bradford Area, Kane Area,
and Otto-Eldred School Districts. I also had the experience of working as a preschool aide and a summer
camp teacher, for grades Kindergarten to 5, at Growing with Grace Christian Preschool. I possess effective
communication skills that allows me to work well as a team member. I collaborate effectively with peer
teachers, students, and parents. My classroom management style creates a safe and comfortable learning
environment for all students. I am flexible with my instructional approach and able to make adjustments
to instruction based on formative assessments.

During my student teaching experiences, I was able to gain insight on how to manage and teach in an
inclusion classroom setting. I learned the value of being adaptive to the students needs and the importance
of differentiated instruction. I am confident in incorporating small group instructions to meet the needs of all
students. I also learned key information on aligning instruction with the PA Core Standards and identifying
appropriate instruction to meet those standards while keeping the needs of the students at the forefront.

I held a long term substitute position for special education in the Otto-Eldred School District. In this position, I
was able to gain insight on writing IEPs, making accommodations for students, adapting assessments, and
progress monitoring in reading fluency, reading comprehension, writing, and math. I was a co-teacher with
regular education teachers in 2nd and 4th grades in which collaborative planning was essential.

In closing, I feel I am a quality teacher that your district is looking for. I will support students and ensure they
are provided a meaningful and supportive education. Thank you for taking the time to consider my
application and I look forward to discussing my qualities and experiences more in deepth. For further
information please contact me by phone at (814) 558-5567 or through email at srb91@pitt.edu.
Sincerely,

Samantha R. Behan
