Bible Dispensation
The Scripture divide time (by which is meant the entire period from the creation of
Adam to theNew heaven and a new earth of Revelation 21:1) into seven unequal
periods, usually called dispensations (Eph. 3:2), although these periods are also called
ages (Eph. 2:7) and days, as in day of the Lord. These periods are marked in Scripture
respect of the two questions: of sin, and of mans responsibility. Each of the
dispensation may be regarded as a new test of the natural man, and each ends in
judgment, marking his utter failure in every dispensation. Five of these dispensation on
periods of time have been fulfilled; we are living in the sixth, probably towards its close,
and live before us the seventh and last: the millennium C.I. Scofield

Message
This Dispensation extends from the creation of Adam to the expulsion from the
Garden. As to tits duration we know nothing. It was probably very short and was the
Dispensation of Innocence. Adam and Eve were created innocent. Innocence is not
righteousness. It cannot became Righteousness until tested. If Adam and Eve had stood
the Test, they would have became Morally righteous but they failed and became sinners.
Introduction:
The Edenic Dispensation (Genesis 2:7 3:24). This Dispensation extends from the
creation of Adam to the Expulsion from the Garden. Act its duration we know nothing.
It was probably very short, and was the Dispensation of Innocence. Adam and Eve
Righteousness until tested. If Adam and Eve had stood the test, they would have became
morally righteous but they failed and became SINNERS. Now man cannot be Righteous

would put here and Adam as the same plane with God and make them god-like, is
the same inducement that Satan offers to ambitious men today, and he is seeking

inventions of men, and exalt man without God, and his aim is the final

2. In the Fall of Man, the triumph of Satan was complete. The first effect of
disobedience of Adam and Eve was self-consciousness. They saw that they were
naked: the result of this knowledge led them to invent clothing made of Fig
leaves. All living creatures are clothed by nature. Fish have scales, birds have
feathers, beasts have hair, or fur, or wool, even serpents have beautifully colored
skin. Man is naked when ushered into existence, but it is not long until nature
provides clothing. Man alone of all Gods creatures is left without clothing, and is
Sin.

3. By questioning them the Lord God got them to sit in judgment on their own
conduct.
Adam blamed his fall on Eve, blamed her all on the Serpent. God patiently
listened to them and gave them an opportunity to justify their conduct, then He
justification.
4. Why did not the Lord God provide a more refined and beautiful dress?
When Adam sinned did he became so animalized that skins were the only
suitable dress for him to wear? No. The skins were typical. They could only be
secured by the killing of some innocent animals, probably lambs, and were a type
of the Lamb of God, and shedding of Blood (Hebrews 9:22) And almost all
things are by the law purged with blood, and without the shedding of blood is no
remission.
5. While the World System of this world are under the dominion of Satan, and God
for some good reason permits them to be, He is not to be charged with inability to

men are lost not because there is no way of escape from the toils of Satan, but
because they will not escape and accept Gods way of escape through Christ.
6. The world would not be deluded by Satans devices (2 Cor. 2:11) if it would
give heed to the more sure word of prophecy (2 Peter 1:19) which reveals his
origins, purpose and doom. But the study of prophecy is not only neglected, but
discouraged because of the way in which the Scripture are wrested. (2 Peter

of sin and the presence of God. There will be nothing like it again until The
tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them in the new earth
(Rev. 21:3). In the Edenic Dispensation, God dealt with Adam in the basis of
innocence, and He can never treat with man again in the same basis until the
Man is no longer under probation, but rather condemnation (John 3:18). Ever
since the fall, God has had to deal with man as a guilty, lost, helpless and ruined
sinner.

And not only a ruined sinner, a ruined creature. There is no good thing in him, he
is at enmity with God, and is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can
Conclusion:
In mercy, God drove the guilt, but forgiven pain from the garden lest they eat of
the Tree of Life and be doomed to live forever in this sinful mortal bodies. Thus the
first Dispensation ended in failure, the human race under condemnation, and the whole
earth cursed. Men claim that innocence and a perfect environment are safeguards against
wrong doing, but the catastrophe of Eden proves that this is not true.
This Dispensation extends from Fall to the Flood. It lasted for 1,656 years and
was the Dispensation of Conscience. It shows what man will do when guided only by
the conscience. Adam and Eve had no conscience before the Fall. Conscience is a
knowledge of good and evil, and this Adam and Eve did not have until they ate of the
fruit of the forbidden tree. Conscience may produce fear and remorse, but it will not keep

1. In the Antidiluvian Dispensation mankind was treated as a whole.
There was no nations that Dispensation called in (Acts 17:30), the Times of
Ignorance and is contacted with the Times that are now, and we are told in that
Dispensation. Conscience was then the standard of human conduct. It was the
standard by which men accused on excused themselves (Romans 2:15) the Sinaitic
Law was not given until after the Exodus. Being without Law there was no legal
standard for sin for by the Law is the knowledge of sin Romans 3:20). But they
were without excuse for God was very near to mankind in those days, and His
voice was heard in rebuke as in to Cain (Gen. 4:14), in communion with Enoch
(Gen. 5:22-24) or in counsel as with Noah (Gen. 6:3). They were therefore not
without knowledge of God, but they glorified Him not, and God gave them over
to vile affections.
2. While there was no Written Law in the Dispensation before the flood, there was
an Unwritten Law and when the Gentiles who have not the Law, do by Nature
the things contained in the Law, they show that they have the Law Written in
Their Hearts, for not the hearers of the Law are just (justified) before God, but the
Doers or those who keep it (Romans 2:11-16). These answer the questions as to
the salvation of the heathen without the Written or Spoken Gospel. If they by
nature seek after God, and show by their faith and conduct, according to their
light, like Cornelius (Acts 10:1-6) that in their heart they have received Him, who
10
dare say they will not be saved? But this does not excuse us from taking the
Gospel to them.

Summary
expulsion from Eden. Adam, created innocent and ignorant of good and
evil, was placed in the garden of Eden with his wife, Eve, and put under
responsibility to abstain from the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good
and evil. The dispensation of innocence resulted in the first failure of man,
By the fall of Adam and Eve required and transmitted to the race the
knowledge of good and evil. This gave conscience a basis for right moral
judgment, and hence the race came under this measure of responsibility, to
do good and eschew evil. The result of the dispensation of conscience from
law), was that all flesh had corrupted his way on the earth, that the
wickedness of man was great in the earth and that every imagination of the
thoughts of this heart was under evil continually, and God closed the
second testing of the natural man with judgment of the flood. (Gen. 3:7,22;
