b. Construct an argument based on evidence to support the claim that inheritable genetic variations may
result from: new genetic combinations through meiosis (crossing over, nondisjunction)

Lesson idea implementation:

The teacher will make this video available through a class blog or an emailed link after teaching a lesson
on meiosis. This video will showcase crossing over within meiosis to begin student expansion of knowledge on
the topic. Students will not be responsible for any graded assignment regarding the movie, but will be
expected to be able to come to class with the beginnings of understanding the concept.
To extend student learning to a higher level, students could be asked to create their own movie as a part
of a final formative assessment at the end of the unit. This video will be a homework flipped classroom
activity meaning it will be introduced during class the previous day and wrapped up through a discussion and
activity in class.

Importance of technology: The video component is critical to this project as it easily sums up the content I
am presenting and may be more user friendly to many students than a PowerPoint or written explanation.
The video presentation also fulfills more UDL principles making the activity accessible to more students. I
would most likely use a blog as an additional form of technology so the video will be easily found an watched
by all students.

are asked to watch a video that will be on our class blog, which does not require a password/account for
students. Teachers do need to consider copyright issues when making a video though.
