Activity: Move faces


In this activity, you will move a set of faces that represent the oil filler neck in this
engine crank case.

Move boss faces


1. Open syn3_assembly_engine.

2. Right-click the left case part as shown, and choose Make Work Part.

3. Choose Home tabSynchronous Modeling groupMove Face .


4. Drag a rectangle to select all seven oil filler boss faces as shown.

5. In the Transform group, from the Motion list, select Distance-Angle.

If Distance-Angle is already selected, select Specify Distance Vector to


activate the OrientXpress tool.

6. Select the X-axis vector as shown.

7. In the Transform group, from the Specify Pivot Point list, select Inferred

Point .
8. Select the arc center as shown.

9. In the on-screen input box, type the values as shown.

o Distance = 22
o Angle = 20

10. Click Apply.

Notice how the blend around the base of the oil filler neck is updated and
wrapped down on the larger case blend.

Change the boss angle


The Move Face dialog box should still be open.

1. Drag a rectangle to select the eight oil filler boss faces as shown.

There are now eight faces because the blend around the base of the boss
extends onto the large blend of the left case.

2. In the Transform group, from the Motion list, select Angle.


3. Select the Z-axis vector as shown.

4. Select the arc center as shown to define the axis point.

5. In the Angle box, type 15.

6. Click OK.

Edit feature parameters


The oil filler neck and cap have assembly constraints to the oil filler boss faces.
When the oil filler boss faces are moved these components follow. In this
configuration, it would be difficult to add oil to the engine because the oil filler is
pointing inboard.

1. In the Part Navigator, under the Model History node, double-click the
last Move Facefeature in the list.
2. In the Move Face dialog box, in the Transform group, click Reverse
Direction to make the oil filler boss opening point away from the case.
3. Click OK.
