About Mussoorie
Situated in the foothills of the Himalayas, Mussoorie is a popular hill station in the state of
Uttarakhand in northern India. Known as the Queen of Hills the quaint town is located at an
average altitude of 1,880 meters above sea level. Mussoorie is known for its scenic views, its
lush green hills, amazing views of the Doon Valley and Shiwalik ranges on the south.
History of Mussoorie
The name Mussoorie is derived from the word Mansoor, which is a shrub that grows in the
area. Before the Tibetan Rebellion in 1959, the Central Tibetan Administration of the 14th Dalai
Lama was established in the hill station. After the rebellion, it moved to Dharamsala where it is
presently located.
Conveniently connected by road to Delhi and major cities, Mussoorie is called the gateway to
the Yamunotri and Gangotri shrines of Northern India. Due to its pleasant weather, which
remains comfortable even in the middle of summer, the town is an ideal holiday getaway during
the summers.
Things to do in Mussoorie
Trekking is a major activity in this hill station and there are quite a few trails, which are ideal for
nature walks and is one of the highlights of Mussoorie tourism. Tourists can enjoy horse riding
or a leisurely walk across Camels Back Road and watch the sunrise from here. The Jharipani
Falls, Bhatta Falls, and Kempty Falls are the three well-known waterfalls in Mussoorie.
Mussoorie holiday packages cover some of the must-see sights of the hill station.
A ropeway ride to the top of Gun Hills, which is the highest peak of Mussoorie is one of the
main attractions of the town. This 400-meter ride offers a view of the Himalayan ranges
including Bunderpunch, Srikantha, Pithwara and Gangotri group and provides views of
Mussoorie town and Doon Valley.
Mussoorie has several European schools, which started during the colonial period. Some of the
oldest and best boarding schools in the country are located here.
Food & Shopping in Mussoorie
Mussoorie has a few things to offer when it comes to food and shopping. The Mall is home to
many small cafes, restaurants as well as handicrafts shops selling curios, woolens and
souvenirs. Tourists can try the small restaurants that offer momos, parathas, locally made ice
creams and sweets as well as international cuisine.
Travelling to Mussoorie
The weather is the main attraction of Mussoorie tourism as even during the summer months the
weather remains cool and pleasant. During spring, the town looks beautiful with blossoming
flowers all around and the trees looking lush and green.
The best time to visit Mussoorie is between the months of April to June and again during the
months of September to November. Winter too has its own charm and many people, especially
those living in warmer parts of the country, reach Mussoorie to experience the winter chill and
see the snow-capped mountains.

Exotic Sublime Granduer Hill Station in Uttarakhand
"Mussoorie is known as Queen of hills, it is located at a distance of 35 km from Dehradun, and
lies in the foothills of the Garhwal Himalayan ranges, it has mesmerised surrounding with its
green hills, varied flora and fauna.

Mussoorie is a transfixed hill resort in Uttarakhand, as one can indulged in the most captivated
Himalayan snow ranges to the north east and the most glittering enthralled view of the Doon
valley and Shiwalik ranges in the south. This is most visited hill station in summers due to its
bewildered beautiful cool fairyland atmosphere, not only today it is a favourite tourist destination,
it was also most loved hill station even in 1920, 30's and 40's, it was frequently visited by our
former Prime Minister Mr Jawaharlal Nehre and his daughter too, it has been said they used to
stay at Hotel Savoy. The enchanting surrounding green hills n cool fresh climate makes this
place perfect traveller haven.

This place is over crowded in summers it is so because of transport facilities and also due to its
several numbers of good places to visit, this place has many good schools too. There are so
many hotels and restaurants at the Mall road according to your pocket, the Mall stretches from
Picture Palace at its eastern end to the Public Library at its western, in order to enjoy this place
leave all your tension behind and take a walk to the Mall road, eat chat and enjoy roadsides
eating stalls like bhutta, bhelpuri boiled eggs & even momos, this place is for perfect for family
friends and even for honeymoon couples too.

One should try yummy fruit cream at the main market on the way of mall road, at this place
there are some good branded show rooms, one can buy stuffs from here also if you are brand
addicted, else there is Tibetan market and locals shops too.

There are numerous places to be explored like..

One can find good institutions here, as this place is also a gateway to Tibetan School, under
14th Dalai Lama the first Tibetan School was established in Mussoorie in1960's. Mussoorie is
conveniently connected by road to Delhi and major cities. It is also called a gateway to
Yamunotri and Gangotri Shrines of Northern India. Best time to visit this bemused place is mid
March to mid November, as the month of July and September is a monsoon season, though the
raining in the hill stations is eye soothing but this season is not much best for travellers as one
can met with some difficulty and casualties due to landslides on the way, as to avoid such weird
situation it is good to visit in summers and winters. On the whole Mussoorie is a Exotic Aromatic

Very chilled and awesome place
"Very chill place. Good choice for honeymoon. Most importantly its neat and clean. Kempty falls,
lal tibba, camels back road. And don't miss rope car at gun hill -mall road, awesome place. It
takes very less amount for ticket, I guess its 75 per person. And don't miss to take photos in
their traditional dress.

Don't miss momos. To my opinion don't try fried momos and don't try anything other than veg or
chicken. It will take around 1000 for a couple for a meal. We went in the month of Oct last week,
it was very chill for us. From Deharadun its takes 1200 in taxi and it takes 1- 1:20 hours. Better
take sweaters. For 3 days it took 16000-18000." - Jayakumar j , Chennai, 1 month ago
Ideal place to stay in the lap of nature and fresh environment
"Its a must visit place to take a break from pollution and hustle bustle of city life. Very soothing
environment and cool breeze would refresh your soul. Best time to visit is during Summers as
the climate is very pleasant that time. Nature lovers must visit this place. You can visit a lake a
few kilometers before mussorie and enjoy boating and other activities. Transport easily
available from Dehradun. Places to visit- Mall Road, Happy Valley, Kempty falls, Mussoorie
lake, gun Hill.

Page 4/13
Ideal place to hit the road. Take a walk around in the evening and enjoy the freshness. Bidget
Hotels are easily available around mall road. Better to book in advance during summer vacation
season. Also carry some warm clothes as evenings might get cold and also can carry umbrella
as rain is unpredictable. Overall it's a must visit for everyone." - Sandy Singh, Noida, 2

2 days trip to Mussoorie
"It's a very nice place and very beautiful also especially if you are with your loved ones. I stayed
in hotel diamond. And it charged me rupees 700 for that. Near it is dhanaulti which is also worth
visiting. Go in a group because you have to use taxis for travelling and they charge a very high
amount. Buses are available but there times are fixed and if you miss them you have to depend
on taxis.

Places in order of most enjoyed:Kempty falls, gun hill, Dhanaulti, Happy village, Lal tibba. Don't
eat maggi there though they would say it is famous. It really tastes pathetic. I stayed near mall
road and it's really a very beautiful place to look at during night. It's a very safe place for girls.
Thanks to itbp. We were at mall road at around 12 am of night looking at soon valley. Have a
nice trip. Enjoy! Do take winter clothes with you" - Bharat Tripathi, Lucknow, 2 months ago
Beautiful Mussoorie!
"Situated close to Delhi, Mussorie is one of the perfect weekend getaways. Just a 6 hours drive
from Delhi, this place brings you out of the hectic metro life. Its a place ideal for couples as well
as groups. Like every hill station, you will get bot budget hotels and luxury hotels. Check in to
one that suits your requirements, drop those bags and set out for sightseeing. You can visit
Gunhill, company garden and a few other places. Spare the afternoon for some rest so that you
are energized for a stroll through the Mall road. Have a nice light dinner. Try some good pahadi
cuisine. I would suggest try some veggie preparations as vegetables are very fresh and tasty
there. Have a good night sleep. Come morning and you are fresh and ready for another
beautiful day. Try to plan a trip to Lal Tibba. Situated at 9500 feet above sea level, It is the
highest point in Mussoorie. And if its a clear sky you can even see the Himalayan range from
there. If you can wake up early, do so and try and get a glimpse of the sunrise. I bet you won't
regret.

Nearby Mussoorie is a place called Dhanaulti. Its a half n hour drive. You can enjoy nature
walks on the plains among the pine trees, with the birds chirping, and the cold breeze blowing
across. Breathe in the cold and fresh air and clean your lungs. Evening brings an end to the
weekend and the getaway too. But you are fresh and energized to give the week a new start." -
