Date: July 11 to 15, 2016
Session 12 to 14

I. Objectives: Students will be able to:

a. differentiate English unit from metric units and accuracy
from precision ;
b. develop mastery in dimensional analysis (converting
English and metric units and vice versa) and the proper
way of using the measuring instruments;
c. perform calculations involving significant figures and
scientific notation.

III. Subject Matter:

A. Topic: Units of Measurement

B. References:
Vengco, Lilia et.al.2013 and the Natural World Phoenix Publishing
House, Inc. Quezon City pp.34 35

C. Instructional Materials:
Chalk board
D. Concepts:
Dimensional Analysis (also called factor label method or unit factor
method) is a problem solving technique that facilitates computation
numbers with units.
SI units of measurements are used for scientific purposes
Accuracy refers to the nearness of measurements to a reference value
or standard value.
Precision refers to the repeatability of measurements or closeness of
measurements to each other
Significant figures are composed of certain numbers and other
uncertain number. It used to determine the accuracy of measurements
or the precision of measuring devices.
Scientific notation is written as a number from 1 to 9 and multiplied by
10 whose exponent indicates the number of times the decimal point.

IV. Procedure:
A. Motivation
Using a Venn diagram, ask the students about the relationship of
science and mathematics including the reasons why we need
mathematics in science.

B. Presentation
Let the student to bring out their mathematics notebook. Emphasize the
conversion factors found at the back of their notebook.

C. Lesson Proper
June 11, 2016
1. Discuss the role of mathematics in the field of science. Recognize
the power of science and indicate to practice honesty in
measurements.
June 12, 2016
Review: Showing alternative materials of laboratory apparatus.
2. Introduce concept in a box found in page 34. Differentiate accuracy
and precision by giving example.
