PROCEDURES IN THE CLASSROOM will be explained to students at the beginning of the

year and reinforced often. Visual aids or posters may also be posted outlining some of the

procedures for reference. Providing clear structure will increase student attention and minimize

and prevent disruptive behavior. Teacher will model correct behaviors for students and use

strategies for students identifying incorrect behavior. Positive reinforcement plays a key role in

behavioral management and strengthens intrinsic motivation and promotes self-confidence.

ENTERING THE CLASSROOM


1. Walk slowly and purposefully into the classroom.
2. If student has any books, bags, etc. put items in personal cubby/shelf.
3. Go directly to assigned seat with no materials.
4. Students should be seated, quiet and looking at teacher at the front of the room
when the bell rings.
TRANSITIONING BETWEEN TASKS
1. Signal student attention to shift attention to Teacher

HANDLING MATERIALS
o Class Helpers
1. Teacher will call for student helpers to come to front instruction table.
2. Give helpers materials to distribute.
3. Helpers quietly and efficiently pass out materials.
4. Helpers return to seats.
o Individual or Table (borrowed materials)
1. Student (or teacher appointed designated student for table) retrieves art
room ID (made on first day of school) from class file box on instruction
table.
2. Student puts ID in pocket on Borrow board and lists items taken.
3. At end of lesson/studio time, Teacher calls attention and informs it is time
for students to return materials.
4. Teacher returns ID to student once materials have been returned.
5. Student puts ID back in class file box and returns to seat.

o Individual (art work)


1. Teacher calls attention at end of lesson/studio time and informs it is time
to clean up.
2. Students take assignments and put them in personal art folders.
3. Students put sketchbooks and art folders in personal cubbies/shelves.
4. Students return to seats.
LEAVING THE CLASSROOM
1. After all materials put away and students return to seats, Teacher will call
attention.
2. Students will be silent and facing teacher.
3. Teacher will dismiss tables, and students will stand up, push in their chairs, and
line up at the door.
4. Students will walk slowly and quietly.
5. Students will line up single file with a person space between them, and keep
hands to themselves.
6. After bell rings, students must remain in line until Teacher dismisses them (must
be quiet, spaces between, no touching, single file).
7. Once dismissed, students will slowly walk into hall and to next class.
