University Road Trip Year 10 Gulgong and Gilgandra High School 9th-11th August
Gilgandra and Gulgong High Schools are working together to give 9 selected year 10 students
from each school the opportunity to experience what University is like first hand. Coming from rural
and remote areas, our students do not often get the opportunity to attend University open days
due to distance and costs associated with travel etc.
We have seen the importance of exposing our students to opportunities outside of our small
communities at an earlier time in their schooling to help increase motivation and to assist in
making subject selection choices. Therefore, we have designed an excursion where our top year
10 students will visit approximately 7 Universities and Colleges over 3 days.
This excursion will expose students to the opportunities at Universities/ Collages We are hoping
that this will allow students to better plan for their future by establishing goals for future education/
training they will work towards achieving and ideally increase student engagement and motivation
in their senior schooling years to successfully achieving these goals.

Gulgong Local Career Expo 5th September

The Gulgong Careers Expo has been initiated to provide much needed information on
post school training and employment options as well as information in support services
available within our community. In addition to this it will be introducing Year 5 and 6
students from the local Primary schools to career opportunities in the local area and to
further develop their career goals. More exciting information will be provided closer to the
event.
