A COMMUNITY WORKING AS A FAMILY

As Christians, we are obligated to help those in need, and as a
congregation we want to follow Christ’s example of love and
compassion. I believe we made great strides in this effort through the
generosity of those involved with our construction campaign, and we
established some relationships that we hope to continue throughout our
work here.

As you can see on the previous page, we now have a church name and logo!
While we plan to have our inaugural service on October 26th, roughly a year
from our arrival date, we have decided to have several “preview” services
leading up to our “grand opening” service at the end of October. While all
our meetings that involve worship to God are equally important, these first
services will serve as a means to practice our services in Spanish as well as to
introduce our church to the community. The first one of these preview

Peruvian cooking is famous

variety of flavors, dishes and
original ingredients. Being a
country with a large fishing
industry, there are many highly
creative dishes based on fish and shellfish. The most
frequently encountered basic ingredients in
Peruvian food are: rice, potatoes, chicken, pork,
mutton and fish. The majority of dishes also include
one or more types of chili pepper: yellow, red, limo or
rocotto. Other ingredients native to the country are
potatoes and tomatoes, familiar to ancient
Peruvians and taken by the Spanish to Europe. Peru
has 468 typical dishes making it – according to the
Guinness Book of Records – the world’s most varied
gastronomy. Emblematic dishes include:

While it was difficult to have Charla away from us while she waited to give
birth, we are so happy to have her back now along with baby Gabriela! We had
a fun baby shower for her when she got back, and the next day we also
celebrated our first 4th of July as a team here in Peru. In June, we were blessed
with the opportunity to spend several days with the two other mission teams
here in Peru (in Lima and Arequipa), and we look forward to future retreats
together, sharing stories and watching all of our kids grow up together.

Suspiro a la Limeña

You’ll find this dessert more often in the Lima region (a
