Reproducible and Reusable Games for Reinforcing Skills
Grades 1-2
during math workshop for fun skill practice {I circulate to guide and support}
as independent math centers {once the children know how to play them}
for homework {theyre easily played with a parent or older sibling}
Each game requires a few materials, but most are common in primary classrooms,
especially if you have a commercially published math series. Youll need the following
items, but its easy to find a substitute if theres something on list you dont have.
For example, dried beans or any small object can be used in place of actual game
pieces.
Some of the games have special cards that need to be printed and cut. They are all
blackline copies without heavy clipart so theyre printer and copier-friendly. However,
if you are have strict copy limits at your site, these cards can easily be written on
index cards instead. {A super parent volunteer would probably love to make those for
you!} And you might consider laminating the games to make them last longer. :)
Homework Tip: If you choose to send any of the games home for added practice,
make sure parents know how to adjust for the materials. For example, they could use
candy, cereal pieces, or dried fruit in place of counters and game pieces.
