Adult Emergency Equipment Trolley

Routine replenishment of equipment for the emergency trolley can be obtained from the Clinical Skills Centre between 08:00-10:00
weekdays. ONLY following an emergency can ward staff attend clinical skills outside of these hours. The Hospital Clinical
Coordinators can be contacted during out of hours & weekends to replenish equipment following an emergency- they MUST NOT
be contacted for routine replacements. Equipment must be collected by ward/department staff.

External to Trolley Checks to be carried out daily and after any resuscitation
event
Portable Oxygen Cylinder Ensure contamination free. The portable oxygen cylinder
must be located next to the resuscitation equipment. Oxygen
tubing must be with the cylinder. The cylinder must be at least
full. Contact the porters to change the cylinder immediately
if only full.

Portable Suction Machine Ensure contamination free. The portable suction machine
must be located next to the resuscitation equipment. Check
Portable Suction Machine in full working order- switch on &
occlude the suction tubing and ensure the machine is
operational. Check for : Suction Tubing and Yankauer
Catheter pre-connected & covered = ready for immediate use

Top of trolley Checks to be carried out daily and after any resuscitation
event
Trolley Damp dust the trolley and ensure Defibrillator and Airway tray
free from dirt and contamination.
Defibrillator (XL Biphasic Manual/AED) Function test using test instruction card and test load. Test
load must be removed once function test has been
completed. Ensure sticker present indicating where nearest
pacing defibrillator is located. Ensure EBME check is within
expiry date.

Ensure black Egg timer symbol present and flashing.


Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Ensure AED guidelines present. Ensure sticker present
indicating where nearest pacing defibrillator is located.
Ensure EBME check is within expiry date.

Airway tray Ensure seal is unbroken, contamination free and in date. If
used, tampered with or out of date return to theatre recovery
for replacement.

Adult multifunction defibrillator pads x 2 Ensure sealed and in date. If opened but not used they must
be disposed of - they dry out.

ECG monitoring dots (XL Biphasic Manual/AED Ensure sealed and in date. Monitoring tabs must not be
only) attached to monitoring leads prior to use- they dry out.

Cardiac Arrest Audit forms x 15 Ensure contamination free. Forms to be completed by


Cardiac Arrest Team Leader (doctor) after each event. White
copy to be retained in the medical casenotes as a record of
the event. Pink copy to be returned to the resuscitation
training department- c/o Clinical Skills Centre.

First Drawer Checks to be carried out daily and after any resuscitation
event
Defibrillator test load (XL Biphasic Manual/AED Ensure contamination free and detached from cable when not
only) in use.

Hypoglycaemia Kit (Hypo Box) Ensure replenished with x2 Lucozade, x2 GlucoGel if used.
Do Not send box to pharmacy. Replenish from ward stock.
For Further advice contact the Diabetic Specialist Nurses
on ext. 2330 APH or 4332 CGH.

Sharps Container (with Yellow Lid) x 1 Ensure not overly full, labelled correctly and the outside is
contamination free.

Emergency Lifting Sheet x 1 Ensure contamination free. Only to be used in an


emergency when a hoist cannot be used. The safe working
load is 400Kg (62 stone).
