At the Churchill County Board of Commis-

sioners meeting Wednesday, Bill Lawry from
the countys Emergency Operations Center
reported on flood mitigation efforts.
I think were doing pretty well, said Lawry,
the incident commander. We started about
a month ago. Weve given away and deliv-
ered over 100,000 sandbags; we have about
30,000 on the ground. We have a sandbag STEVE RANSON / LVN
machine that should be here today. Water from the V-line canal flows down a north-south TCID canal near Powerline Road.

Eleanor Lockwood for 20 years of service.
During public comment, the new Fallon
Golf Course pro Marty Davis shared about
himself and his present goals for the facility.
I see a tremendous opportunity for this

Work on US 95 culverts finishes

Water flows from Lahontan Reservoir
have been reduced to the Carson River
and V-line canal so the Truckee-Carson
Irrigation District can inspect the water
delivery system and perform preventative
maintenance at several sites.
TCID General Manager Rusty Jardine
said Thursday crews need to exam-
ine the new weir and spillway that was
constructed off the V-line canal midway
between Diversion Dam and the 26-Foot
Drop, a hydro-electric energy generation
facility. Jardine said TCID is constantly
checking the safety of the entire system.
With the pressure of the water shoot-
ing out over the weir, the flow broke
down some embankment, Jardine said,
adding additional concrete was poured
Thursday afternoon to reinforce the
banks so they dont crumble into the
channel. Jardine warned people to stay
away from all embankments.
As a result of the work, TCID reduced
the outgoing flow from Lahontan Reser-
voir to 850 cubic feet per second. Jardine
also said the right outlet valve at Lahon-
tan Reservoir was turned off for inspec-
tion and maintenance.
Once the maintenance is complet-
ed, Jardine said TCID will increase the
flow from the reservoir. He also said the
maintenance work performed this week
slowed the flow of water from the V-line
