THE HIGHER EDUCATION IN RUSSIA

The Higher Educational System of Russia includes:

548 state universities, academies, institutes;


180 non-state educational institutions;
3 000 000 students;
227 000 professors and lecturers.

The Russian Higher Education has a remarkable biography. The world-


famous scientist M.Lomonosov established traditions that were continued
in Moscow and Saint-Petersburg universities. They take their place among
the most prestigious educational establishments in the world.
Since that time last the Higher Schools of Russia have produced about 30
million highly qualified specialists. Among its graduates are: prominent
scientists, winners of international and home awards. A lot of extraordinary
achievements were made by our scientists and engineers.
The first level of the higher education in Russia provides general
academic training. It lasts for 2 years and the students get a diploma of
incomplete higher education.
At the Second level students receive fundamental training in arts,
social studies and science and acquire professional skills. It lasts for 4
years and leads to a Bachelor's degree.
At the third level the students become highly qualified specialists. It
leads to a Master's degree.
There is a full-time, part-time and extra-mural teaching at the educational
establishments.
All modern facilities are at the students' disposal: well-equipped studies,
gyms, laboratories, library collections and reading halls.
All students are provided with medical insurance. The best students get a
scholarship.
The Higher Educational System of Russia gives its graduates unlimited
possibilities and satisfying professional skills. Besides, they can take post
graduate courses in the chosen field.
