Review of the Arts in Canberra
The ACT Government has released for public comment the final
report of the review of the arts in Canberra, by independent
consultants Peter Loxton and Associates Pty Ltd.
The report is available electronically at www.arts.act.gov.au and
hardcopies are available for viewing at Canberra Connect Shopfronts
and ACT Public Libraries. Written submissions can be made either by
emailing ArtsReview@act.gov.au or by posting hardcopy responses
to ‘Arts Review’, artsACT, GPO Box 158, Canberra City ACT 2601.

Chifley and Pearce residents and cyclists
The ACT Government has engaged GTA Consultants to provide
advice regarding a new community path in Chifley and Pearce.
The proposed path will run from the Athllon Drive shared path,
along Melrose Drive and through the Chifley/Pearce ‘green belt’ to
connect with the Tuggeranong Parkway shared path. The path has
been designed to support walking and cycling to local schools and
encourage commuter and recreational cycling.
Residents of Chifley and Pearce and others with an interest in this
proposal are invited to attend a Community Consultation session.
When: Saturday 14 August 2010 (2.00 pm – 4.00 pm)

Canberra Brickworks and Environs Planning
Strategy Community Workshop
The Land Development Agency is seeking feedback from the
community on four design options for the Yarralumla-West Deakin
study area, including the Canberra Brickworks.

Proposed change to the Territory Plan -
Residential Zones Development Code and
Lease Variation General Code
This is a reminder that the public consultation period, to provide
comments on Draft Variation 303 to the Territory Plan, closes on
Monday 23 August 2010.
Draft Variation 303 proposes:
• to replace the current housing codes with the Residential Zone
Development Code, Single Dwelling Housing Development Code
and Multi-Unit Housing Development Code;
• revised residential zone objectives, revised residential zones
development tables and the introduction of a Lease Variation
General Code;
• to incorporate leading practice solar access provisions into
residential codes and new rules for secondary residences (commonly
called granny flats); and
• to change the minimum block size for dual occupancy
developments in RZ1, RZ2 and multi unit housing in RZ2.

Planning for Eastern Broadacre
The ACT Planning and Land Authority has released a discussion
paper seeking public comment on ideas for the Eastern Broadacre
area, particularly parts that may be suitable for future employment
development. Eastern Broadacre includes the Majura Valley /
Symonston / Hume corridor.

The Canberra community is invited to have their say on the future
direction of public high schools and colleges as part of the discussion
paper Improving ACT Public High Schools and Colleges.
The discussion paper aims to generate innovative ideas to ensure
Canberra’s public secondary school sector will continue to meet the
aspirations, needs, and interests of young people in the 21st Century.

Fix My Street
Canberrans can now report neighbourhood issues such as cracked
footpaths, potholes, graffiti and grass mowing any time of the day to the
ACT Government using a newly refreshed online service called Fix My
Street.
To report a problem, Canberrans need to simply fill out a form, give a
brief description of the problem and the location and click the send
button. Users can identify the location via a clickable map and upload
photos to accompany their report.
By registering for an account, users can also login to see the response
from the Government and the progress on their request.
Fix My Street can be accessed through www.act.gov.au and
www.canberraconnect.act.gov.au
Responsibility of cat owners
Cat owners are reminded that domestic cats are a threat to native wildlife.
An ACT study reveals domestic cats are responsible for killing a total of 67
different species of birds and animals.
You can reduce the risk to native wildlife by keeping your cat indoors,
particularly between sunset and sunrise, and by putting a bell on your
cat’s collar to provide a warning to other animals.If you are living in a cat
curfew area – Bonner, Forde, Mulligan’s Flat and Goorooyarroo – your cat
must be confined to your property at all times.

Temporary road closure on Barton Highway
cancelled
The ACT Government wishes to advise motorists and other roads
users that the road closure on Barton Highway at its intersection with
Gungahlin Drive scheduled for today, Saturday 7 August 2010, and
tomorrow, Sunday 8 August 2010, has been cancelled.
This road closure will still take place the following weekend on Saturday
14 August and Sunday 15 August 2010 as previously advertised.
