S1 Diagram 1 shows the schematic diagram of spermatogenesis in human.

(a) State [4 marks]

(i) the name of cell P and cell R
(ii) the number of chromosome of cell Q
(iii) the name the process N.

(b) Explain the importance of both the process K and L in

spermatogenesis. [3 marks]

- K is meiosis I and L is meiosis II.

- To produce the haploid gametes.
- To ensure the zygote formed through fertilisation is
diploid.
- To produce genetic variation.
(c) An ernormous number of sperms can be produced from
a single primordial germ cell.
Explain a male who does not produce enough sperms is
consider infertile. [2 marks]

- The sperm has to swimp a long distance to Fallopian tube to fertilise the egg.
- If not enough sperm is produced, the is a posibility that no sperm reach Fallopian tube,
no fertilisation occur.

Diagram 2 shows part of the human female reproductive system.

(d) (i) State the sequence of development of the follicle in P. [3 marks]

Process X:

(ii) Explain when the secondary oocyte will change into ovum in humans. [1 mark]
When a sperm penetrates the secondary oocyte during fertilisation where meiosis II will be
completed.

(a) (i) Name the organisational level of flower in multicellular organism. [1 mark]
organ
(ii) State a difference between sexual reproduction and asexual reproduction in plants. [1 mark]
sexual reproduction involves fertilisation of male gamete and female gamete whereas asexual
reproduction not.

7 TEA
(b) (i) A diploid cell in P in Diagram 5.1(a) undergoes cell division to produce haploid cells of the
pollen. Explain the process. [2 marks]
Pollen mother cell undergoes meiosis to produce 4 haploid microspores
Nucleus of haploid microspore undergoes mitosis to form generative nuclei and tube nuclei.
The microspores undergo differentiation and form pollen grain.

(ii) After the mature pollen formed in P, the butterfly perch the flower for sucking the honey and
alight the other flower at the same tree.
Based on Diagram 5.1 (a), explain the possibility which occur in Q structure of the other flower.
[2 marks]
Pollen grain germinates and form a pollen tube.
Pollen tube grows through style and reaches micropyle.
As the pollen tube grow, the generative nuclei divide mitotically to form 2 male nuclei.

(c) Based on Diagram 5.1 (b), the fertilisation which occurs in R differs with in human.
Explain why. [3 marks]

Fertilisation in R Fertilisation in human

- 1 male nuclei fertilises the egg- form 2n zygote - 1 male gamete fertilises 1 egg,
- another nuclei fertilise 2 polar nuclei - form 3n endosperm. form 2n zygote
- double fertilisation- fertilisation occurs twice - fertilisation occurs once
- occurs in ovule - occurs in Fallopian tube.

(d) During the development of ovule and seed in the flower, ovary develops to form fruit.
Explain the important of the fruit. [2 marks]
- contains seed for dispersal
- Animals that eat the fruit help in dispersal of seeds, hence ensure the continuity of flowering
plants.

S2 (a) A: Pollen tube B: Embryo sac C: Male gametes

(b) (i) F : It grows down the style in ovary / enters the ovule
P2 : By secretes enzymes to digest the style tissues as it grows towards an ovule
(ii) P1 : One of the male gamete / Structure C fuse with egg cells to form a diploid zygote
P2 : The other male gamete / Structure C fuses with 2 polar nuclei forming a triploid nucleus
P3 : This process is known as double fertilization
(c) E1 : After fertilization, the ovary becomes a fruit
E2 : The ovule become a seed
E3 : The triploid nucleus becomes the endorsperm
E4 : Integuments becomes the seed coat. [Any three]
(d) P1 : Place it in dry condition
P2 : Keep in air tight container
