Dalhousie square go on a Sunday or early morning ...

avoid office hours so that

there would be less traffic and people.... if you go in a car you might pass it
quickly... start walking near the raj bhavan ie the governors house towards Bengal
chambers of commerce.... roads parallel to that are all quite old... but I
understand your inlaws are with you so.... if there are any walks in that area you
might want to take it if prices are alright....

Gariahat and Dakshinapan in south Kolkata is good for Kolkata shopping... you have
to take a cab from park street... in gariahat there is this saree shop....
Rmcabask.com/contact.html, they should have decent priced sarees and good stock...
I am yet to ask my sister about saree kutir...the one which you mentioned below...

You can walk the whole of parkstreet with Kiran till St.Xaviers college and can
also dine in some of the very famous park street restaurants..they are quite old
but not atrociously priced and serves mostly European food...

The biggest problem in Kolkata is that we are busy arguing than persevering what is
already there.... its a shame... no body cares

To add a few for your research ....:)

Belur math and a boat ride from there to Dakshineshwar.... on the Ganges/Hooghly..(
the missing boat ride??)
Indian museum
Marble palace
Fort William
Shobhabajar rajbari
St johns church
Pareshnath jain temple

99% of the places I havent Visited myself ??

Visit to kalighat temple... please reconsider... the south Kolkata temple albeit
famous for Bengalis and biharis its quite small in area hence quite congested with
people from villages
crowding it... it could be a bit overwhelming for you guys... and specially with
samith in tow... Dakshineshwar is in a 30 times bigger area and its also a kali
temple...

Saree shop I will let you know...

And always hire a good boat over the Ganges... its rainy season so the river will
be in full swing...

Bengalis can be rude..so grow a thick skin ... but I guess not harmful.. crime rate
in west Bengal is amongst the lowest in India... but always be careful
Try to club adjoining sights together.... into north, south, central Kolkata. Since
you guys are living in parkstreet which is central Kolkata so a lot of places would
be nearby I reckon...

Prefer ole, uber to the yellow taxis since the drivers can be rude and fussy ??

I think kumartuli would be a pleasure since the festival is approaching so I guess

a lot of idols would be in advanced stages.

Places like dakshineswar is a lil away..not that away in Bangalore standards... if

possible book a cab for 3 days and cover the far flung places....

If possible checkout the narrow lanes in north Kolkata...the sweet shop yes famous
is located in north Kolkata...might be you find some narrow lane neighbourhoods
there....i have occasionally visited that side of the city so Not very confident ??

By the way dont Venture into sonagachi the red light district somewhere in north
Kolkata... it might also have narrow lanes ??
