of Google Drive, screenshots, and screencasts.
4. Time Allotment: 1 Hour

Implementation
Learning Context
Our school has had access to Google Tools for 1.5 years. Some teachers use the tools more
than others. The tools are not used for collaboration. The teachers currently collaborate
through PLC meetings and sharing ideas. There is a shared drive on the school network where
teachers share worksheets and powerpoints. The use of technology tools in the classroom is
limited and there is not anywhere to share new ideas or tools.

Procedure
a. Introduction- Introduce myself and the goal of the workshop (3-5 mins)
b. Go over log in procedures for Google Account (5 mins)
c. Go over how to access Google Drive and how to set up a folder and how to share a
folder. A folder will have been shared with them that is titled CHHS Social Studies.
Within that folder there is a folder for Economics started. The team leads from the other
SS classes will be asked to create a folder for their subject area. (5 Mins)
d. Check for Understanding: Each teacher present will be asked to create their own
private content folders on their Google Drive. They will create a new Google, Doc, or
Sheet. They will title the document with their name. They will then move the document
into the shared Google Workshop folder. The folder will be pulled up on the

1
projection screen so that the teachers can see when their documents have been
added. (5 Mins)
e. Independent Practice: The teachers will then partner up with other teachers that teach
the same subjects and will add material for one unit in their subject area. (10 mins)
f. Taking it a step further: The goal of using Google drive is to make other teachers in our
content areas aware of the Technology Tools that are available in the classroom. I will
teach them how to create screenshots and screencasts to use to share with others for
new tools. (10 Mins)
g. Check for understanding: Ask each teacher to create a 10 second screencast and
upload it to the Google Workshop Folder
h. Closing: Feedback Form

Evaluation Narrative

The one-hour technology workshop that I planned was delivered to a small group of
social studies teachers at Collins Hill High School addressing how to access and use Google
Drive, as well as how we could use it to increase the collaboration with in our content area.
After responding to the invite, teachers were sent a pre- workshop survey. This allowed me to
gauge how comfortable the attendees are with the use of Google Drive, screen shots, screen
casts, and how they currently share files and ideas with other teachers. The results of that
survey can be found here. The results showed me that most of the teachers attending the
workshop have an idea about Google, but use it primarily for email.
When the teachers arrived, they were asked to click on the website link that was sent to
them through email. This got them to the homepage of the site and allowed them to see the
agenda for the workshop as well as click around while we waited on everyone to get there. I
introduced myself and the goals and objectives of the workshop to the teachers and asked
some probing questions on their thoughts about collaboration amongst the department. They
all expressed similar concerns about sharing ideas and having a central place to put them.
After that I walked the teachers through how to log on to their Google Account and how to use
it. The teachers were given time to create a folder for their content area and upload materials
for a unit they chose. With the files being shared I could see progress of the teachers
uploading as well as walk around to answer questions. After the teachers played with Google
Drive for a few minutes I walked them through how to create screenshots and screencasts and
explain how these could be beneficial for collaboration and sharing ideas. I asked each teacher
to practice creating one of each.
The feedback from my workshop was encouraging. The results can be found h ere. The
feedback allowed me to see how effective the workshop was as well as any insight that could
make the workshop better. Based off the results, all of the teachers in attendance found the
workshop useful. The comfort level of the use of Google drive increased amongst the teachers,
and half of the teachers plan on implementing the use of Google Drive into their collaboration.
The teachers also provided feedback on how to make the workshop better. I will use this
feedback to make the lesson better when I implement it with other content areas in the school.
This experience increased my confidence in coaching in front of my peers, especially veteran
teachers.
