My name is Yosua Heru Irawan. I am graduate student at Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering
Gadjah Mada University. Ive completed my master course on January 2017 and now Im waiting for the graduation
ceremony on April 2017. Previosly, I completed my undergraduate course in Institute of Science and Technology Akprind
with a major in Mechanical Engineering. My undergraduate and graduate course focusing learn about the field of energy
conversion. As the requirement for my master degree, I conducted research in Numerical Simulation of The Improved
Performance on Counter Rotating Wind Turbines Toward Single Rotating Wind Turbines. I used computational fluid
dynamic (CFD) to analyze the performance of each wind turbines model. My research findings showed that the increase
performance of counter rotating wind turbines is 16.67 % at axial distance ratio 1 and wind velocity 3 m/s. Furthermore,
during my master study, I attended several international coferences focusing on science and technology, such as 2nd
International Conference of Science and Technology 2016. I presented one paper entitle at the Numerical Simulation of
the Effect of Axial Distance Between Two Rotors in Counter Rotating Wind Turbines.

During my undergraduate study, i have been working as an lecturer assistant in Language Laboratory Institut of
Science and Technology Akprind. In this laboratory, I teach the basics of conversation using English in some department,
such as Dept. Mechanical Engineering, Dept. Chemical Engineering, Dept. Industrial Engineering, and Dept. Electrical
Engineering. In october 2015, when I was taking master course, I was an exchange student at Ehime University Japan. For
one month in Ehime University, I did some research on the topic of renewable energy. During 2016, I helped my supervisor
to do research in the field of renewable energy, especially wind energy field. I along with my team doing research on the
development of wind turbine models. Conventional wind turbine models with a single rotor developed into a model of
counter rotation with double rotor to improve the performance of wind turbines. Consequently, I have gained experience
about renewable energy, especially wind energy. These have then enable me to see how my ideas and inovations have led
me to desired results and made me suitably qualified to apply this Doctors program.

My future goal is to develop myself to be a specialist in the field of renewable energy, especially in wind energy.
I would like to contribute actively in addresing the issues faced by the utilization of wind energy in remote areas in
Indonesia. As a matter of fact, the utilization of wind energy in Indonesia is still very small. Wind energy in Indonesia has
the potential to generate electrical power of 9.2 gigawatts, but only 5 megawatts is utilized. I have strong commitment to
develop the renewable energy research center that specializes in studying renewable energy, especially wind energy. In
the renewable energy research center, i will play a significant role in the modeling and simulation method, such as fluid
dynamic modeling, structural modeling, and fluid-structure interaction modeling. I further plan to implement experimental
method to investigate the performance of wind turbines. At this point, KGSP will enable me to learn more about modeling
and experimental method of wind turbines and how it can be useful as a means of addressing the problem in utilization
wind energy in remote areas, specifically in Indonesia. Several universities in Korea, such as KAIST, Seoul National
University, and Korea University have actively conducted research focusing on renewable energy. I believe that KGSP
will be once in a lifetime opportunity for me to learn deeply about my field of study as well as serving as a bridge to reach
my future goals.

Studying in Korea is a way to in realize my future goal and link between my background study and future goals.
Korea is a country well known among the people of Indonesia. Korea is known for its natural beauty and also the quality
of education is very good. Based on research conducted by The Social Progress Imperative in 2016, Korea is the country
with the first rank in the category of the best education systems in the world. I got information that some universities in
Korea such as KAIST, Seoul National University, and Korea University included in the 100 best universities in the world
according to the version of 'QS University Rankings'. Specialized for engineering, KAIST rank the 21 best universities in
the world. Im very sure that advanced theories and technologies in this country will facilitate me immensely in the
achievement of remarkable progress, fulfilling my aspiration to become an accomplished professional in the field of
renewable energy.
