L.C. Describe the location of genes in chromosomes.

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:

1 distinguish the component of DNA molecule;

2 differentiate the structure of a nucleotides;
3 Construct a model of a molecule of DNA.

II. Subject Matter

Topic: DNA: The Genetic Material
Concept: DNA is a macromolecule that forms a double helix structure in
the cells (mostly in the nuclei and mitochondria) of living organism. The DNA
molecule is considered the genetic material of all living cells. It is present in
bacteria, protists, fungi, plants and animals. DNA is responsible for
determining the specific characteristics of an organism.

Materials: utouts of basic subunits of DNA, crayons, scissors, glue,
laptop, projector

III. Procedures
A. Classroom Routine
B. Activity Proper
1. Review.
2. Its DOTA TIME!
a. Ask the students on how to play DOTA game.
b. Ask the students about their first experienced in playing
the game.
C. Analysis
1. Why is it following instruction is very necessary?
D. Abstraction
1. Inductive Method. Present the visual presentation of the topic
on the board.
a. What is DNA? What is the function of DNA?
b. What is the structure of DNA?
c. What is nucleotide? What is structure of nucleotides?
2. Discuss further the topic and give more information.

E. Application. Working Tetrads.

1. Cut out all of the units needed to make the nucleotides from the
handout provided by the teacher.
2. Color code the nitrogenous bases, phosphorus, and sugars.
Adenine = yellow, Guanine = green, Thymine = blue, Cytosine =
red, Phosphate brown and Deoxyribose sugar = black.
3. Using the small squares and stars as guides, line up the bases,
phosphates and sugars. And now glue the appropriate parts
together forming nucleotides. Construct DNA model using the
following sequence to form a row from top to bottom.

Thymine
Adenine
Cytosine
Guanine
Adenine
Cytosine

4. Let this arrangement represent the left half of your DNA

molecule. And complete the right side by adding the
complementary bases.

IV. Assessment
Answer the guide question in the module (Science 9: Learners Module) n
page 44. Write your answer on one (1) sheet of paper.

V. Assignment
Make a study note of your next topic about Biodiversity and Evolution. Place
your output on your lecture notebook.
