Rod Pumps A: RW
Standard equipment includes Dura-H hardened and precision honed barrels, Duralloy metal sprayed
plungers, armoured cages, armoured valve rod guides, armoured fittings, superloy balls & seats and 3-cup
top or bottom hold-downs. Optional equipment includes a variety of grades of balls & seats, barrels,
plungers, cages, and fittings as listed in the Pump Parts section. Simplex top or bottom lock hold-downs, API
bottom lock hold-downs, Duralloy metal sprayed plunger, with Monel pins top and bottom, plunger valves or
bottom plunger valve only. Double valves throughout are available if desired.
Stationary Barrel Dura Pumps with top hold-down (RWA) are recommended for shallow to moderate depth
wells. They are particularly effective in sandy conditions since top suspension prevents sand from packing
between barrel and tubing. The combination of Duralloy plunger, Dura-H hardened and precision honed
barrel and armoured fittings also resists the abrasive action of sand. This type pump is also recommended
for gassy, corrosive, slant or crooked hole conditions.
Stationary Barrel Dura Pumps with bottom hold-down (RWB) are recommended for moderate to deep wells.
This type pump is particularly effective in abrasive and corrosive wells where the combination of hardened
and precision honed barrel, Duralloy plunger and armoured fittings effectively resists the action of these two
conditions. Under normal, moderate well conditions, the Dura Pump is an economical high volume
producer.
Travelling Barrel Dura Pumps (RWT) are highly effective in sandy wells where operation is intermittent. Sand
falls back around the pump during shut-down periods, is agitated and moved upward by the reciprocating
action of travelling barrel with little abrasive effect on inner wearing surfaces of the pump. This type pump is
recommended for moderate to deep wells, and will operate effectively in gassy conditions and under
heavy fluid loads.
All parts in 1-1/4", 1-1/2", 2" and 2-1/2" bore Dura Pump assemblies conform to API specifications.
Special pump sizes in bore & length provided on request subject to material availability.

Rod Pumps B: RH
The Barrel assembly of this pump is equipped with extension couplings that result in a Stroke-Thru type
pump. The pump is manufactured in a Travelling Barrel configuration with 3-Cup Bottom Hold-Down or in a
Stationary Barrel configuration with either Top or-Bottom 3-Cup Hold-Down.
Optional equipment may include an API Bottom Lock Hold-Down, a Top or Bottom DURA Simplex Mechanical
Hold-Down, or a variety of Plunger and Barrel grades to meet all service requirements. All pump fittings,
valve cages, extension couplings, etc., are Armoured Steel, but can be provided in upgraded materials
such as stainless steel, Monel or HMO 1925.
The DURA Heavy-Wall Stroke-Thru Pumps utilize API Heavy-Wall Barrels to reduce the breathing effect. This
applies even to the deepest wells. The coefficient of friction of the DURA Duralloy Plunger (Metal Spray) is
practically zero when it is used with a hardened Barrel. This assures a long wear life and increased plunger
fall speed.
The DURA Heavy-Wall Stroke-Thru Pump is recommended for all hard to pump wells.
All the parts in a DURA Heavy-Wall Stroke-Thru Pump Assembly in the 1-1/4", 1-1/2", 1-3/4", and 2-1/4
configurations conform to API standards.

Tubing Pumps A: TH
The Dura Products Tubing Pump is a stroke-thru design recommended for sand, gyp, gas, low gravity viscous
fluids, high water-cut wells and wells with light fluid. Its heavy duty construction makes it especially suited for
those hard to pump wells and wells that can produce large volumes.
This pump incorporates a heavy wall barrel, carburized on the ID to achieve a minimum hardness of 58 Rc
with a soft core (15/23 Rc) for ductility and toughness (Dura-H). The ID hardness, combined with its precision
mirror like finish, gives good wearing characteristics and minimum friction. API thread terminals adapt to
standard API barrel couplings and seamless extension nipples that permit the plunger to stroke out of the
barrel on both ends for an even wear distribution. This reduces the chance of sand and abrasive material
becoming trapped between the barrel and plunger that could result in a stuck plunger and causing lost
production and costly repairs.
Standard equipment includes Dura-H hardened and precision honed barrels, Duralloy metal sprayed
plungers, armoured fittings and cages, superloy balls & seats , retrievable standing valve and DURA puller.
Optional equipment includes a variety of grades of balls & seats, barrels, plungers, cages, and fittings as
listed in the Pump Parts section.

SPECIALTY PUMPS
The DURA Two-Stage pump is basically a two-stage compressor in the form of a stationary, full
barrel, rod actuated pump with a bottom hold down. The compression ratio has been staged by
replacing the valve rod with a small hollow plunger or a hollow pull tube, which is of a smaller
diameter than the primary plunger is. Flow by the small plunger is stopped by a short liner, which
is installed in the upper section of the barrel. The lower end of the small plunger is connected to
the large plunger by the use of a closed valve cage with a flat ball and seat and an open
plunger-connecting cage, which is also fitted with a flat ball and seat. The annulus between the
barrel and the small plunger or hollow pull tube acts as the second stage of the compressor, with
the large plunger working as the first stage.
The discharge valve next to the hollow pull tube or upper discharge valve shields the middle or
intermediate discharge valve from the high tubing or discharge pressure when the pump does not
fill completely. This reduced pressure on the intermediate valve allows it to open at a higher point
in the down stroke than it would if it was installed in a conventional pump. The produced fluid
flows by the intermediate valve and into the chamber created between the hollow pull tube and
the barrel. On the upstroke this fluid is compressed between the closed intermediate valve and
the liner surrounding the pull tube; This forces the upper discharge valve to open and produced
fluid to flow into the tubing and out of the well.
This style of pump is normally installed with a bottom cup or mechanical hold down. In extreme
gas conditions an additional travelling valve may be installed at the top of the hollow plunger or
pull tube.
Complete with one piece liner, perforated metal-sprayed upper plunger, Duralloy pin-end
plunger, hardened and precision honed heavy duty barrel tube, Endurall balls & seats, and steel
cages with cobalt alloy inserts.

The middle or standing barrel is manufactured of standard material. It is precision honed on the inside and
ground on the outside surfaces to provide longer wear and eliminate galling. The NO GO ring has been
placed on the uppermost part of the Standing valve cage to decrease the length of annular space for sand
to settle on top of the hold-down.
The Dura Three Tube Pump is available with a precision ground plunger. The pump is clutched in both the
collapsed and extended positions to actuate a Pump Anchor or ON and OFF attachment.
A Bottom Discharge Valve as optional equipment is available for Three Tube Pumps. This valve is installed on
the bottom of the middle barrel. It is designed to discharge some produced fluid at the bottom of the Pump
and will aid in the scavenging of sand in the area between the tubing and pump. For details on Bottom
Discharge Valve refer to Parts Section of the Dura Products catalogue.

Special Pumps D: Pull Tube Pump
Currently five types of pull tube pumps are available. Type 1 uses standard rod pump parts, which
allows the changeover from a conventional pump to the pull tube pump design. The Type 2 is a
modified tubing pump. The Type 3 is a modified rod pump designed specifically for high volume
wells. The Type 5 is similar to the Type 1 but incorporates an upper valve that improves pump
efficiency when operated in gaseous wells. The Type 6 is based on an oversized tubing pump.

Special Pumps E: Duplex
DUPLEX PUMP
DESIGNED FOR HANDLING LARGE FLUID VOLUMES
Dura Duplex pumps provide an efficient and economical method of pumping wells that have a strong water
drive or where waterflooding operations have necessitated the handling of larger volumes of fluid to get the
desired production. Further economy is obtained over tubing pumps, in that tubing does not have to be
pulled to install or repair a Dura Products Duplex pump.
The greater capacity of Dura Products Duplex pumps makes it possible to produce the same fluid volume at:
(1) a slower pumping speed to provide longer life on all equipment, (2) shorter stroke length to increase the
service life of sucker rods and decrease gear wear of pumper unit.
Waterflooding makes it imperative that larger volumes of fluid be pumped to maintain productions
schedules. Dura Products Duplex pumps give you tubing pump volume without sacrificing the lower
operational cost of a rod pump. Corrosion resistant materials are available to resist the oxygen corrosion
often intensified by waterflooding.
Fifty percent of fluid is discharged from pump on upstroke and downstroke. This reduces fluid friction through
the pump and keeps fluid moving up the tubing at all times. This keeps sand from settling and prevents
corrosive fluids from becoming dormant, where they have time to corrode pump parts. Being of stationary
barrel design, there is no interference between the tubing ID and pump. This reduces sucker rod buckling to
a minimum and provides greater plunger travel for higher pump efficiency with reduced wear on moving
pump parts.

APPLICATION The Pollution Control Check Valve and Stuffing Box [PCCV] is a
Well head stuffing box wellhead accessory designed to protect and preserve the environment
in the event of a polished rod failure. The PCCV is a solution for
potential soil or water contamination problems.
BENEFIT
Prevents environmental
contamination in the event DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION
of a polished rod failure The PCCVs method of operation is simple and reliable. When the
polished rod breaks and the rod string falls through the PCCV stuffing
box and BOPs, the PCCVs check valve closes and blocks the well
FEATURES bore before fluid can escape.
Made from NACE MR0175
approved materials The design features a check valve flapper and a non-metallic wear
block that rides against the polished rod. The wear block is held
against the polished rod by an H2S resistant Inconel spring. When
the polished rod breaks and the rod string falls, the spring-loaded
valve flapper swings up and seats against a Viton O-ring and closes
off the well bore. Well pressure against the backside of the check disk
ensures a positive shut off. Once the broken polished rod is replaced
the re-installation of the PCCV can protect against future failures.
Two 1/2" (12.7mm) NPT ports are provided which allow for the
installation of fluid level monitors or pressure switches. These can be
used to sense fluid presence or pressure in the valve body when the
PCCV is installed above another stuffing box. It is recommended that
the PCCV be installed above another stuffing box to provide a dual
pack off. Dura Products manufactures adapters to facilitate the
installation of the PCCV with either a Dual-Pac, Com-Pac, or Hercules
style stuffing box. The PCCV can also function as a lubricator with the
addition of light oil and or corrosion inhibitor into the body cavity. Fluid
is sealed in at thetop of the PCCV by using standard packing, packing
gland and cap.

UNITIZED LINER
When stuffing box packing must be tightened to prevent leaks,
lifting costs are increased due to added torque loading and
higher power costs. Good polished rod liners minimize these
expenses.
LINER HEAD
The liner head is manufactured of alloy steel incorporating three set screw locking giving proper
centralization to prevent the risk of offset and leakage. Oil resistant Buna-N packing is used to give
a positive seal.

Pump Parts B
DURA offers a complete line of Balls and Seats to service all different pumping medias. The careful selection
of highest quality materials, coupled with accurate machining and 100% inspection of each set is positive
assurance that DURA Balls and Seats provide optimum service life under the most severe pumping
conditions. DURA Balls and Seats are vacuum tested as a unit to guarantee a flawless product.
SUPERLOY
This ball and seat is made of high quality, rigidly controlled corrosion resistant stainless material with a
hardness of 57-61 RC and 50/54 RC on the ball and seat respectively. This, our most popular grade, has
proven itself in oil fields worldwide to be a consistent-performer under most well conditions. It is
recommended for wells where extreme abrasion and corrosion is not the prime factor.
ENDURALL
Made of high quality non-magnetic non-ferrous allow, Composed of Carbon, Chromium, Tungsten and
Cobalt. The ball composition is the Stoody grade #2 with hardness of 58-63 RC, and the seat is recognized
as a Stoody grade #1 with a hardness of 50-56 RC. The Ball and Seat combination has proven an
outstanding performer worldwide in extreme abrasive and/or corrosive environments. The primary
application is for all wells and conditions except for the most severe where only the Tungsten Carbide Set will
perform.
SOLID CARBIDE
Made of cemented Tungsten Carbide material with a hardness of 88-89 Ra, which has unusually high
resistance to fluid cutting, sand abrasion, spalling and corrosion. This product is today's ultimate in valve
material and is recommended where all others have failed. It is also offered with a lighter weight Chrome
Carbide Ball where the heavier regular Ball is believed detrimental to the cage.
This combination utilizes the premium grade Tungsten Carbide seat and field proven economy priced
Superloy stainless ball and has proven unbeatable in most environmental conditions, including steam and
fire floods.
This combination utilizes the premium grade Carbide seat and field proven Endurall Alloy Ball for extreme
abrasive and corrosive environments.
Is similar in characteristics to the Solid Carbide ball and seat, however it is manufactured of powdered metal
and is not cast. This has two benefits, one the ball and seat are homogenous through out, which means the
core and skin of these units are of the same strength; and two the ball is harder than one made of cast
carbide and therefore has a higher resistance to galling and spalling.
The Nickel Carbide ball is manufactured from 6% Nickel and 84% Tungsten Carbide with a Cobalt binder
material. The ball hardness is 90.5 Ra. The seat is manufacture of 10% Nickel and 90% Tungsten Carbide
with the same Ra of 90.5 as the ball. The increased Nickel content in the seat provides impact resistance.
This style of ball and seat is recommended for highly corrosive applications.

DURA BARRELS
Dura Products offers a complete line of barrels to accommodate metal, cup, ring or combination of
plungers. Each barrel, from the economy steel through the more expensive grade, receives individual rigid
inspection to assure a defective free product with dimensions conforming to those published in the latest
edition of the API pump standards. The barrels will henceforth be referred to by the following trade names:
DURA BARRELS
DURA H - CARBURIZED STEEL
Dura H barrels are fabricated from a specially selected carbon steel material suitable for carburized
hardening on the I.D. to a file hard 58/62 Rockwell C minimum, yet maintaining at 15/23 Rockwell C core
for ductility and toughness. A soft ductile core resists impact loads and stress cracking often associated with
downhole operating conditions. The barrel is subsequently precision honed to a mirror like finish; this
combination provides the excellent wearing qualities of hardened and honed steel barrel. The barrel is
recommended for moderate abrasive conditions.
Longer barrels can be obtained two ways one by utilizing barrel tubing more than 24 feet in length or two by
coupling shorter barrels together. Finding and handling quality raw material more than 24 feet can be
difficult, as is moving the assembled pump from the pump shop to the remote wellsite. A coupled barrel
may be easier to handle and ship; assuming the barrel and pump can be assembled at the wellsite.
DESIGN
The coupled barrel consists of two or more barrels and one or more couplings. The barrels are connected
using the coupling, and seal on a shoulder inside of the coupling.
Figure 1.
COUPLING
BARREL
The barrels are thin or heavy wall with OD threads. The coupling is threaded on the ID.
Concentricity is controlled by tight tolerances between the OD barrel threads and barrel ID of 0.001" TIR
and between the coupling ID threads and counterbore of 0.003" TIR.
1. Barrels will ship with coupling mounted on one tube, or as complete units.
2. If assembled in pump shop install barrel into coupling and line up scribe marks.
3. Stroke the operating plunger back and forth over the coupled area. If a click is evidentwhen the
plunger is stroked through the connection, retighten the barrel slightly and repeat the procedure
until the plunger runs smoothly through the coupled area.
4. When final assembly is satisfactory, scribe a line carfully from the barrel, over the barrel-connecting
coupling.
5. Break out only one end of the assembly by securely holding the opposite barrel tight so as not to
move the coupling.
(B) On Location
6. To reattach the disconnected barrel section, thread the barrel into the coupling, tighten until the
scribe marks line up. Test the assembly as indicated in step 3. If there is clicking adjust the pump
barrels as originally described. In most cases the assembly will not require additional adjustment.
AVAILABILITY
The coupled barrels are available only as special orders from the plant.

CAGES
DURA Products subsurface pump cages have been engineered to give
maximum flow capability. The cage crown has been scientifically designed
to provide the correct ball lift and provide the correct side clearance to
ensure free and unobstructed fluid flow through the valve. The valve rib
location, taper and the clearance between the ball and rib face have been
designed to reduce the ball spin and chattering. This increases the ball life
and maximizes the valve efficiency.
A variety of materials are offered to tailor the cage to meet specific well
needs.
DURA CAGE
CLOSED, FOR DOUBLE VALVE PUMP
Used primarily to double valve a pump. The upper end is externally threaded to connect to another cage
and the lower end has an internal cage thread to receive a seat plug, hold-down, etc. When added to the
plunger assembly, deduct 6" from the length of the valve rod or pull tube. Double valves added to the
barrel assembly will not change the valve rod or pull tube length.

DURA CAGE
CLOSED, FOR PIN-END PLUNGER
Used with pin end plungers. Both ends are internally threaded with a common thread. The upper end
connects to the plunger and the lower end will receive a double valve cage, seat plug or standing valve
puller. These cages are of single piece construction and incorporate vertical ball guides.
DURA CAGE
FOR CLOSED BARREL
Used on Stationary Type Rod Insert Pumps. Upper end is threaded to fit the barrel while the lower end
receives the ball and seat, seat retainer, double valve cage, and/or hold-down assembly. These cages are
made to rigid specifications. The ball guides are machined from the cage body and guide the ball
vertically. This reduces the ball spin and chatter.

DURA CAGE
INSERT STYLE, OPEN
The DURA insert style open cage assemblies consist of four parts, the cage shell, the Cobalt alloy
replaceable insert, the gasket and either a bushing connector or plug. The Cobalt insert functions as a ball
guide and stop and eliminates the need for Stellite lined cages. It is designed to accept API balls. The
cage shell, bushing connector and plug are manufactured in either armoured steel or Monel materials. The
design of the insert cage allows for replacement of worn parts only and therefore can reduce operating
costs. The Cobalt insert is corrosion resistant and anti-magnetic and therefore resists Gyp build up. The
gasket is manufactured from an HTRC material formulated for extreme well applications such as high
temperature and corrosion.
DURA CAGE
TOP PLUNGER
This 3-Wing Open Plunger Cage conforms to API specifications. The upper end contains a box thread to
receive an API Valve Rod. The deep counter bore and close tolerances eliminate any bending moments in
the thread area. The lower thread accommodates a pin end plunger, but requires a spacer if a ball and
seat are not used.

DURA COUPLING
FOR BOTTOM LOCK SLEEVE
The DURA bottom lock sleeve is used with the DURA Simplex Bottom Lock Hold-Down assembly. It connects to
the mandrel and holds the bottom lock sleeve in place. The lower end incorporates a pipe thread
connection for a strainer nipple or gas anchor.
DURA COUPLING
FOR BOTTOM ANCHORED SEATING CUP
This DURA coupling is used with 3-cup bottom hold down assemblies and with 2-cup standing valves with
lock nuts. The upper end is threaded internally to receive an API hold-down mandrel whereas the lower end
is threaded for a gas anchor or strainer nipple.
DURA COUPLING
LOWER, FOR PULL TUBE
This coupling is used in travelling barrel pumps. The upper end is threaded with an API pull tube thread and
the lower end incorporates an API box type thread. This coupling connects the pull tube to the hold-down
assembly.
This coupling is a 3-wing open style and may be used instead of a cage. The upper end is threaded for an
API valve rod and is designed with a deep counter-bore and a tight rod clearance to reduce bending
moments in the thread area. The lower thread is designed for a box-end plunger.

SPRAY-METAL COUPLINGS
The spray-metal couplings incorporate a nickel base material thermally fused to a steel coupling.
The overlay contains nickel and is inherently corrosion resistant and wear resistant. The spray-metal
covers the entire length of the coupling and has a hardness range of 56-62 HRC.
Full Formed Threads are standard on all DURA sucker rod couplings. The thread has a rounded
and compact thread root with is manufactured with a special forming tap that does not cut the
material. Full formed threads offer an uninterrupted metal grain flow pattern, a smooth surface for
easier thread make up and a reduction in the stress concentration at the thread root. The threads
are cold formed to API dimensional specifications.
Spray-metal sucker rod couplings have been demonstrated to significantly extend well run lives compared
to either standard Class T couplings, or spray metal couplings with typical API 11B surface finishes.
High surface finish spray metal couplings reduce wear and friction, and reduce rod hang-up.
See the product brochure on HSF Spray-Metal Couplings at the start of the catalogue.

The DURA Hydraulic Pump Drain provides a positive way of draining the production tubing if the rod pump
cannot be pulled. Using hydraulic pressure to shear the brass pins, it causes the tools ports to open allowing
the fluid above the pump to drain below.
This assembly is used with a standard 2-7/8 API top hold-down (See Page HOL 1).

The DURA Hydraulic Tubing Drain provides a positive method of dumping the tubing string fluid. Using
hydraulic pressure to shear stainless steel pins, it causes the tools fluid ports to open to the casing annulus,
permitting the fluid level to equalize. The side ports are very large, allowing for quick fluid unloading, and
do not act as a choke in heavy oil and sand mixtures.

DURA HOLD-DOWN
TOP, 3-CUP, TYPE O, FOR RW SLIM HOLE INSERT PUMPS
These hold-downs can be used on all slim hole stationary barrel rod pumps. The type O hold-downs are
similar in construction to the API cup type hold-down except it employs the use of type O cups. This allows
for a larger bore through the mandrel for extra fluid passage. The upper end of the mandrel is threaded
externally to fit the valve rod guide, and the bottom of the assembly connects to the barrel or a coupling.

DURA HOLD-DOWN
FRICTION SEAL TYPE
The Friction Seal Hold-Down is an all-metal hold-down that can be used in high temperature applications,
specifically in areas where the fabric seating cups will not operate.
DESIGN
Metal to metal seal that provides a positive seal with no leakage path
Materials are suitable for high temperature applications
The holding force may be varied by either the addition, or subtraction, of friction sealing rings
May be used in wells where heavy shock loading is anticipated
Manufactured to accommodate repeated seating/unseating cycles
Note: The DURA Friction Seal Hold-Down is a Patented Product, Canadian Patent Number 1,324,167.
APPLICATION
The Friction Seal Hold-Down assembly with bypass tube has been designed for cyclic (huff and puff) steam
injection applications. To steam the reservoir, the pump is unseated and the pump assembly is lifted so that
the smaller OD bypass tube is in the nipple area providing a larger area for steam injections. Upon
completion of the steam injection cycle, the pump is reseated and the production cycle restarted. The
same application can be used for killing of the well or injecting into formation.
The Friction Seal Hold-Down may also be used in other applications, specifically in high volume wells and
in wells where heavy shock loading is anticipated. The operation of the double displacement/duplex pump,
which is hydraulically unbalanced, can benefit from use of the friction seal ring since its holding power can
be adjusted to fit the application.
The Friction Seal Hold-Down is available in either a top or bottom hold-down design. The Friction Seal uses
the same seating cup coupling as a 3-cup hold-down of equivalent size.
Note: The numbers in the above chart are only guidelines. They may vary due to differences in material,
temperature and actual size.

This modified API mandrel is designed to fit in a Camco style D or DS nipple. It has an extended neck to
allow the seating cups to engage in the lower section of the Camco nipple. If it is run in as a top hold down
an undersized barrel connector bushing must also be run to allow the barrel to pass through the type D
Part # 33310 (2.250 + .000, -.010 ID) nipple. Standard bushings may be run in a type DS Part # 33365
(2.312 ID) nipple. Standard cup nuts, spacers and cups are run with this mandrel.

BOTTOM, 3 CUP, BRASS WEDGE RING
The Dura hold-down with wedge rings is used on applications where cups do not provide sufficient
holding force to keep the pumps seated throughout the pumping cycle. Applications are fiberglass
rod installations, sandy wells, and areas with excessive gyp, etc. This assembly incorporates the use
of six narrow wedge rings in addition to the three seating cups normally used for cup type hold- A
downs. Each wedge ring is responsible for 1/6 of the total holding force of the assembly, which is
7400#, for the 2-7/8 size. This hold-down gives you the option to vary the forces by the removal of
one or more of the rings; however the wedge ring spacers should not be removed. The upper C
terminal connects to the pumps 2-1/4 standing valve cage.

DURA NUT
CUP TYPE, FOR HOLD DOWN
This nut is used on cup type hold-downs and/or plunger extension assemblies and threads directly on to the
mandrel. One end is curved to fit against the cup and the other end is flat to face against the mating part.
This nut is used on the cup plunger. The nut locks against the bushing to prevent the part for backing off.
This nut is used on the DURA full flow standing valve to prevent the seat retainer from backing out.
DURA PACKING
BUNA-N PACKING
This fluid seal packing is composed of lip type split rings moulded from BUNA-N which is a
synthetic rubber compound accepted universally for oilfield use. The lip seal reduces the
area of packing that comes in contact with the polished rod. This reduces the wear on both
components also well pressure expands the lips which compensates for wear.
DURALON PACKING
This is compressible packing composed of Teflon impregnated asbestos split rings and
BUNA-N end rings. The extremely low friction coefficient of the packing makes it ideally
suited for high water-cut wells where maintaining seal lubrication is a problem. An upgraded
set with VITON end rings is also available.
CARBON-GRAPHITE PACKING
Carbon-graphite packing is made from tightly braided carbon yarn with a fine graphite
suspension permeating the entire braid. It is designed work in a broad range of
temperatures, and offers maximum built in lubrication. Packing service temperature: -202F
to 650F. BUNA-N end ring service temperature: -15F to 400F.
Upgraded Carbon-Graphite packing is made by cross braiding expanded graphite yarns
that are reinforced with very high quality carbon fiber filaments. This adds to the life cycle of
the product. The addition of Aflas end rings in the set makes it ideal for high temperature
applications. Packing service temperature: -202F to 650F. AFLAS End ring service
temperature: 20F to 475F (550F for short intervals).
DURA PACKING
SUPER GOLD PACKING
Super Gold is non-adjustable packing that can be used without lubrication at lower
temperatures. Service temperatures: no lubrication 25F max; lubricated 300F max.

DURA PLUG
SEAT
The DURA seat plug is used on stationary barrel pumps. The upper end is externally threaded to connect to
a closed lower plunger cage and hold the valve seat firmly in position.
SEAT, FLUSHMOUNT
Dura flushmount seat plugs are used on stationary barrel pumps. The flushmount plug is externally threaded
to connect to a closed lower plunger cage and hold the valve seat firmly in position. The design of the Dura
flushmount seat plug allows close spacing between the travelling and standing valve. This close spacing
helps to increase pumping efficiency when producing a high G.O.R. fluid.
DURA PLUNGERS
DURA PRODUCTS offers a complete line of spray metal plungers the hardest most corrosion resistant metals
available. Each plunger and/or plunger component must meet DURAS metallurgical and precision
standards, as well as the dimensional standards of API 11AX.
DURALLOY - A metal sprayed one piece design plunger recommended for the most severe corrosive and
abrasive conditions. These plungers are made by fusing a 56/60 Rc hardness Nickel base surfacing alloy to
the O.D. of a thick walled seamless steel tube. The surfacing alloy is highly resistant to spalling and flaking
and the extremely low coefficient of friction makes it ideally suited where wear is a problem.
Duralloy plungers are furnished with box or pin-end thread terminals in popular sizes and lengths, and are
also available with Monel pins for added protection against corrosion.
DURALLOY W/MONEL PINS - The same physical characteristics as the standard Duralloy plunger except for the
addition of Monel pins. The Monel pin-end plunger is ideal where severe corrosive conditions exist. This
plunger meets all API IIAX specifications for plungers.
DURA-ULTRA - Designed for extreme sand conditions. It is a Carbide metal sprayed plunger available with
either pin or box ends. The surface hardness obtained with Duras unique process is equal to a 72 RC. This
plunger when used with the Sandwiper is Duras most abrasive resistant offering.
CE - Designed (for economy) to be cost effective. These Nickel-based spray-metal coated plungers are fully
compliant with API 11AX but the surface finish and hardness are slightly less than the premium Duralloy
plunger. The CE plunger offers an excellent compromise between price and performance for moderate
applications. These plungers are only available in select sizes, lengths, and fits. Contact plant for further
information.

DURA PLUNGER
PRESSURE ACTUATED
All plunger bodies are designed with a -.007/-.009 fit. The plunger to barrel seal is activated by the fluid pressure on the
cupped plunger ring. This occurs on the up-stroke only. However, there is a controlled leakage from the first to second
ring and from the second to third ring and so on. This means that each ring carries only a small percentage of the total
load. On the down stroke the pressure is removed and the rings collapse. This allows the plunger to fall freely and to
allow sand or other foreign material to flow past the plunger and out of the well. Since the plunger rings expand to meet
the barrel wall, the pump will continue to perform efficiently as the barrel wears. The Dura Pressure Activated plunger is
the logical choice for wells with high sand content or for use as a clean up plunger for a newly sand fractured well.
-GREEN NYLON ring: Made of heat stabilized, lubricated, impact resistant super-tough nylon 6 resins. The most flexible of
the Zytel Nylon resin line. It is used in applications requiring high resistance to oils, gasoline, greases and salt solutions. It
is also used extensively in environments containing lubricating oil, greases and aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons.
Melt temperature is 504F, with upper recommended service temperature at 262F
-BLACK XT ring: The XT resin is a high performance, mechanically tough, fluropolymer and offers an excellent balance of
properties. The XT is inert to most solvents and chemicals, and is hydrolytically stable. Melt temperature is at 536F, with
upper recommended service temperature at 392F.
-RED PHENOLIC fabric ring: It is made of nylon fabric, and is good for high abrasion. It comes with a 5 to 10 mil Nitrile
coating that has good heat resistance, and is serviceable to 250F, continuous and to 300F for short exposure.
-BLACK with YELLOW STRIPE HI-GLASS fabric ring: The Hi-Glass rings are made of 100% close weave High-Glass fabric, with
a special coating (5 to 10 mil) for high temperature, and chemical resistance. It has been compounded for excellent
chemical and abrasion resistance. This compound has excellent heat resistance and is serviceable to 425F, continuous
and 475F for short exposure. This is the best ring when a combination of either abrasion, chemical and/or excessive
temperature is present.
PLUNGER ADAPTER

UPSET SHOULDER
TO PRELOAD PIN
The Upset Polished Rod (UPR) is an old solution to todays production problems. The shoulder provided on the UPR allows
for preloading the threaded connection. This reduces failures caused by unscrewing, or loose connection fatigue.
Conventional polished rods are connected to the rod string with a special coupling. The UPR uses a standard rod collar
coupling. This eliminates the chance for error during installation. An over-torqued polished rod coupling can ride-up
on the run out area of a polished rod thread. This can cause a coupling to swell and fail. The UPRs shoulder prevents
this from occurring.
Conventional sucker rod tools are used to install this last connection in the production chain. This eliminates stress risers
on the polished rod caused by pipe wrench scarring.
The upset also acts as a string safety joint by preventing the polished rod from blowing through the BOP in case of a rod
string failure. This can prevent environmental contamination from high-pressured open wells.
Preloading the UPR connection is very important in rod strings used to drive screw pumps since this reduces the chance
of string torque causing a collar ride-up and failure at the polished rod pin.
The Dura Products UPR is manufactured from Carbon Steel and is available in all standard lengths and both 1-1/4
(31.8mm) and 1-1/2 (38.1mm) diameters.
The UPR may be provided with a Metal-Spray finish. This increases the surface hardness to over 56 RC and extends
polished rod life in abrasive conditions.

To calculate the length of valve rod required; add the nominal length of the barrel to the extensions (if
required) and subtract the nominal length of the plunger. This difference is used in column (1) along with the
correct O.D. of valve rod and the style of anchor employed to determine the part number of rod required.
Example (2): A bottom-anchored pump is designed with a 16' barrel, with 2' extensions at each end, a 6
nominal length plunger, and a 7/8" valve rod. The difference between barrel and plunger is
14' therefore from the chart the part number of the rod required is 0656-0921-63.
Note: When a Double Valve Cage is used Deduct 6" from valve rod length. If Closer spacing is
required an adjustable valve rod bushing is recommended.
This valve rod is used in stationary barrel rod insert pumps. It is used in applications where valve rod wear is
a problem. The rod is manufactured of precision cold drawn alloy steel bars, which is metal sprayed with a
nickel based powder to achieve 50 HRC hardness. All threads meet API modified line pipe thread
specifications. Recommended for use in severe abrasion and corrosive conditions.
Note: see page R7 for instruction on sizing. The last 3 digits designates the length of the valve rod in inches.
Example: for part number 0656-0780-85 the rod length is 85" long,
for part number 0656-0781-09 the rod length is 109" long.
When a double valve cage is used, deduct 6" from valve rod length, for closer spacing an adjustable valve
rod bushing is recommended.

DURA VALVE
STANDING, API 2 CUP, WITH LOCK NUT AND TYPE HR SEATING CUPS
This part is used with API heavy wall Tubing pumps (TH). The cups seat and the tapered bottom coupling seats
within the API seating nipple. The 3-Wing open cage is tapped for a puller. The assemblies include type HR
seating cups. Ball and seat are not part of the assembly. See parts section B for material selection. The
assemblies incorporate a lock nut to secure cups on seating cup mandrel and conform to API specifications.
DURA VALVE
STANDING, MECHANICAL LOCK
Used with API type TH pumps (tubing pumps with extensions). It is like a regular 2-cup standing valve except
the cups have been replaced with the regular API mechanical lock hold-down. This valve seats in a API
mechanical bottom lock nipple run below the pump barrel. Balls and seats are not part of assembly. See
part section B for material selection.

DURA VALVE
FULL FLOW
The DURA full flow standing valve is assembled at the lower end of a full barrel tubing pump. The seat
retainer is secured with a lock nut to reduce the possibility of joint back out with hard pumping wells. The
valve is designed to handle high fluid volumes by using the next size larger API ball and seat for a given size
valve. That is the 2-3/8" (API 2") valve uses a 2-1/4" API ball and seat instead of the standard 2" API ball and
seat. Balls and seats are not part of the assembly. See part section B for material selection.

DURA VALVE
SPOOL CHECK
The DURA spool check valve was designed to assist the travelling valve in opening during the down stroke on
gaseous wells. The gaseous fluid in the pump chamber tends to delay the opening of the travelling valve
because of its compressibility. The pressure above the plunger is greater than the pressure below the
plunger. With standard pumps much of the down stroke is used to compress the mixture in the pump
chamber. The DURA spool check valve removes the pressure off the plunger valve therefore allowing it to
open sooner and increasing the pump efficiency.
The DURA spool check valve is available for stationary barrel bottom hold down pumps. The length of the
complete assembly is the same as the combined length of the API connector and rod guide. This eliminates
the need to change the length of the valve rod. The spool is available in Brass or hardened Stainless Steel.
The DURA spool check valve also works as an excellent sand check valve.

DURA VALVE
BOTTOM DISCHARGE
This type of valve is used with bottom hold down pumps, either API RW or RH, stationary or travelling barrel.
On the downstroke of the pump, some produced fluid is discharged in the area above the hold-down to
scavenge sand for the annulus between the pump O.D. and the Tubing I.D.
The bottom discharge can be assembled with a DURA insert (See Figure 1) guided cage/or one piece cage.
The discharge holes are slanted downward to direct fluid discharge above the hold-down no-go, thus
agitating sand to keep it in suspension with produced fluid. Only two special parts are required to assemble
the valve.

DURA VALVE
TOP CHECK VALVE
Introduction
The Dura Top Check Valve can be attached to the top of any standard
rod insert pump. The Top Check Valve can be used on both top and
bottom hold down pumps. GUIDE
The 2-3/8 valve consists of a brass drop and adapter bushing with a
hardened seat surface; the 2-7/8" valve consists of a brass drop and
hardened stainless seat.
Operation
The drop in the Top Check Valve is lifted off the seat by fluid above the
plunger on the upstroke; and as the plunger starts the down-stroke the
drop re-seats, relieving the hydrostatic head off the travelling valve and
allows it to open sooner, improving pump efficiency, especially with gassy
and foamy fluid.
This in turn reduces some of the shock loading seen in fluid pound and gas A-DROP
pound, helping to eliminate compression in the bottom of the sucker rod
string and reducing tubing and rod wear.
Although the Dura Top Check Valve can be used with standard valve rod,
Dura recommends metal-sprayed valve rod for better performance. B-HOUSING
