SSC JE Syllabus for Recruitment

2016
The SSC recently announced an examination for recruiting Junior Engineers, Grade
B. The examination will take place in two phases. Each phase will consist of one
paper. While Paper I will be a computer based exam, Paper II will be a written exam.
This article will give you detailed SSC JE syllabus and exam pattern so that you can
apply for the exam without any hassle. You may also download this post on SSC JE

In Paper-I, 0.25 marks will be deducted for each wrong answer.


Once score marks equal to or higher than the minimum cut off (to be decided
by SSC) in Paper I, you will be eligible to appear for paper II.
You will be selected based on the total marks you obtain in Paper I
and Paper II.
Choose your subjects for Part-A, B and C according to the post you are
applying for. If you fail in the subject that you choose, your answer sheet will
not be evaluated.
You will be allowed to bring their own SlideRule, Calculator, Logarithm
Tables and Steam Table for Paper-II only. You are not allowed to use
such aids for Paper-I.
Your answer sheets will be made available to you by SSC after the
examination. You can raise your objections at that time, if you have any.

Like stated above, the SSC JE Exam will take place in two phases. But since your
selection depends on the marks you score in both the phases, read the complete SSC
JE syllabus carefully and then start preparing.

The level of questions in Engineering subjects will be approximately of the level of


Diploma in Engineering (Civil/Electrical/Mechanical) from a recognized Institute,
Board or University recognized by All India Board of Technical Education. All the
questions will be set in SI units.

SSC JE Syllabus: Paper-I

As per the Official SSC JE Syllabus, you are supposed to have decent reasoning and
knowledge of Current affairs and GK.

General Intelligence & Reasoning: Questions of both verbal and non-verbal


type. The test may include questions on analogies, similarities, differences,
space visualization, problem-solving, analysis, judgement, decision making,
visual memory, discrimination, observation, relationship concepts,
arithmetical reasoning, verbal and figure classification, arithmetical number
series etc. The test will also include questions designed to test the your ability
to deal with abstract ideas and symbols and their relationships, arithmetical
computations and other analytical functions.

General Awareness: Questions will be aimed at testing your general awareness


of the environment around you and its application to society. Questions will
also test your knowledge of current events and of matters of everyday
observations and experiences in their scientific aspect. The test will also
include questions relating to India and its neighbouring countries especially
pertaining to History, Culture, Geography, Economic Science, General Polity

and Scientific Research, etc. These questions will be such that they do
not require a special study of any discipline.

Building Materials, Estimating, Costing and Valuation, Surveying, Soil Mechanic

Structural Engineering: Theory of Structures, Concrete Technology, RCC Design,


Steel Design.

Part-B Electrical Engineering

Basic concepts, Circuit law, Magnetic Circuit, AC Fundamentals, Measurement and


Measuring instruments, Electrical Machines, Fractional Kilowatt Motors and single
phase induction Motors, Synchronous Machines, Generation, Transmission and
Distribution, Estimation and Costing, Utilization and Electrical Energy, Basic
Electronics.

Part-C Mechanical Engineering

Theory of Machines and Machine Design, Engineering Mechanics and Strength of


Materials, Properties of Pure Substances, 1st Law of Thermodynamics, 2nd Law of
Thermodynamics, Air standard Cycles for IC Engines, IC Engine Performance, IC
Engines Combustion, IC Engine Cooling & Lubrication, Rankine cycle of System,
Boilers, Classification, Specification, Fitting & Accessories, Air Compressors & their
cycles, Refrigeration cycles, Principle of Refrigeration Plant, Nozzles & Steam
Turbines.

Properties & Classification of Fluids, Fluid Statics, Measurement of Fluid Pressure,
Fluid kinematics, Dynamics of Ideal fluids, Measurement of Flow rate, basic
principles, Hydraulic Turbines, Centrifugal Pumps, Classification of steels.
