2.1 Introduction
The following report emphasis on the structural calculation of steel canopy at 27thlevel for the project
ARTESIA MIDRISE BUILDING G+28ON PLOT 676-5408.
This document covers the analysis and design of structural steel work for below defined loads & load combination
and the connections are design as bolted & welded connections.
The dead loads & lateral loads are considered in the analysis complying with the clients specifications as follows:
Wind Loading
A detailed wind load calculation as per BS 6399-Part 2: 1997- Loadings for buildings. Code of practice
for wind loads. Based on 3s gust wind speed of 45 m/s as per municipality requirements have been carried out for Tower A.
Also the wind pressure/ suction for different zones have been tabulated.

Wind load Calculation
Wind load is calculated as per BS 6399-Part 2 code of practice for wind loads
Building type Factor Kb = 1 (Ref: Table 1)
Maximum Height of the structure ~ 100 m
Dynamic augmentation factor < 0.1 (Ref:Fig 3)
Building is not dynamic,BS6399-part2 is applicable for this structure and Standard method
is used to calculate wind pressure

The anchor design methods in PROFIS Anchor require rigid anchor plates per current regulations (ETAG 001/Annex C, EOTA TR029, etc.).
This means load re-distribution on the anchors due to elastic deformations of the anchor plate are not considered - the anchor plate is
assumed to be sufficiently stiff, in order not to be deformed when subjected to the design loading. PROFIS Anchor calculates the minimum
required anchor plate thickness with FEM to limit the stress of the anchor plate based on the assumptions explained above. The proof if the
rigid base plate assumption is valid is not carried out by PROFIS Anchor. Input data and results must be checked for agreement with the
existing conditions and for plausibility!
ACI349-01 does not specifically address anchor bending when a stand-off condition exists. PROFIS Anchor calculates a shear load
corresponding to anchor bending when stand-off exists and includes the results as a Design Strength!
Checking the transfer of loads into the base material and the shear resistance are required in accordance with ACI349-01 or the relevant
standard!
ACI 349-01, Appendix B, Part B.3.6.1 requires the governing design strength of an anchor or group of anchors to be limited by ductile steel
failure. If this is NOT the case, Part B.3.6.2 requires the attachment to be designed to undergo ductile yielding at a load level corresponding
to anchor forces not greater than 75% of the controlling design strength. In lieu of B.3.6.1 and B.3.6.2, the minimum design strength of the
anchors shall be multiplied by a reduction factor (f nonductile) per B.3.6.3
Pryout Strength can control the shear design if edge distances are large. When checking the Design Shear Strength per B.3.6.1, the Design
Concrete Breakout Strength and the Design Pryout Strength will be multiplied by a factor 0.85 and compared to 0.65 Ns
The design of Anchor Reinforcement is beyond the scope of PROFIS Anchor. Refer to ACI349-01, Part B.4.2.1 and the Commentary
RB.4.2.1
Please note that this PROFIS software is not produced or supplied under Hilti's 10CFR50, Appendix B compliant Nuclear Quality Program

Comments: Tension displacements are valid with half of the required installation torque moment for uncracked concrete! Shear displacements
are valid without friction between the concrete and the anchor plate! The gap due to the drilled hole and clearance hole tolerances are not
included in this calculation!
The acceptable anchor displacements depend on the fastened construction and must be defined by the designer!

The accessory list in this report is for the information of the user only. In any case, the instructions for use provided with the product have to
be followed to ensure a proper installation.
Bore hole cleaning must be performed according to instructions for use (blow twice with oil-free compressed air (min. 6 bar), brush twice,
blow twice with oil-free compressed air (min. 6 bar)).
Characteristic bond resistances depend on short- and long-term temperatures.
Please contact Hilti to check feasibility of HIT-V rod supply.
The design method fib (07/2011) assumes that no hole clearance between the anchors and the fixture is present. This can be achieved by
filling the gap with mortar of sufficient compressive strength (e.g. by using the HILTI Seismic/Filling set) or by other suitable means
The compliance with current standards (e.g. EC3) is the responsibility of the user
Checking the transfer of loads into the base material is required in accordance with fib (07/2011)!

For Low Shear (i.e. Fv <= 0.75 PvN), moment capacity of beam at the notch
in the presence of shear, McN = py Zn (Indicative)
McN = N.A. kN.m.
For High Shear (i.e. Fv > 0.75 PvN), moment capacity of beam at the notch
in the presence of shear, McN = 1.5 * py * Z * { 1 - (Fv/PvN)^2 }^0.5

Moment capacity of beam at the notch, in the presence of shear,
a) for single bolt line or for double bolt lines, if xN > 2d
McN = N.A. kN-m
Mnc = Fv * (t1 + c) = N.A. kN-m N.A.

REFERENCE FOR WIND SPEED
Dubai Municipality

3.1.2. Basic wind velocity
The basic wind velocity is the value of the 10-min. averaged wind velocities measured at 10-
m height in an open field that has mean reccurance interval of 50 years (i.e., the annual
probability of exceedance = 0.02). The basic wind velocity for Dubai has been estimated to be
Vb = 30 m/s (108 km/h)., the basic wind velocity of 30 m/s calculated for averaging time of
10-min. corresponds to a basic wind velocity of 45 m/s (160 km/h) for averaging time of 3-
sec. Although studies shows that dominant winds are from the north and the west, in light of
all the other uncertainties that are discussed in the next section, the wind directionality is not
considered as a factor in the calculation of wind loads.

Studies have shown that for extreme cases the synoptic winds still control the design [5].
Also, the comparison of velocity profiles in several codes does not suggest any major flaw in
extending the log law beyond 200m , which is the limit in Eurocode, in light of many other
more pressing uncertainties that surface in the quantification of wind velocity profiles [5,6].
The basic wind velocity is the value of the 10-min. averaged wind velocities measured at 10-
m height in an open field that has mean reccurance interval of 50 years (i.e., the annual
probability of exceedance = 0.02). The basic wind velocity for Dubai has been estimated from
the analysis of wind velocities recoerded at the Dubai International Airport during the last 25
years. Figure 3.1 shows the recorded wind velocities and wind directions, and their
corresponding histograms. Assuming that the distribution function of extreme wind speeds is
asympthotic to the Fisher-Tippet (i.e., Type 1) distribution, and matching a Gumbel
distrbution to the ppeak values,, as shown in Figure 3.2, the basic wind velocity for Dubai is
determined to be Vb = 25 m/s (90 km/h). Based on the relationship developed by Durst [7]
between the short-time and hourly averaged wind velocities (as shown in Fig. 3.3), the basic
wind velocity of 25 m/s calculated for averaging time of 10-min. corresponds to a basic wind
velocity of 38 m/s (137 km/h) for averaging time of 3-sec. Although Fig. 3.1 shows that
dominant winds are from the north and the west, in light of all the other uncertainties that are
discussed in the next section, the wind directionality is not considered as a factor in the
calculation of wind loads.
