1.0 Introduction

This engineering standard gives details about the minimum requirements for configuration and format
of engineering drawings produced in AutoCAD 2004. This standard assumes a certain degree of
AutoCAD2004 user familiarity and expertise with personal computer systems. Knowledge of standard
personal computer usage is therefore assumed.

Note that any changes to this document from its last revision are highlighted by a bold vertical
bar to the left of each area of change. Should there be a need to consult this documents change
history log, refer in the first instance to its custodian (EE). References made to other standards
throughout this standard are numbered inside square brackets [ ] and may be found in the Bibliography
of section (13).

2.0 Custodianship

The Custodian of this standard is EE, who is responsible for the accuracy and quality of its contents
and for its future revisions, where these are required to reflect industry trends or changes to QP
business practices.

3.0 Purpose

The purpose of this standard is to ensure that QP and any Consultant or Contractor provides AutoCAD
2004 drawings produced in an agreed single standard manner. This standard guides users to the
minimum AutoCAD 2004 configuration requirements. AutoCAD users shall also refer to [1].

4.0 Application

Personnel engaged in the development of AutoCAD 2004 drawings for or on behalf of the Corporation
shall apply this standard.

5.0 AutoCAD Version

AutoCAD Release 2004 is the QP standard version. Other versions of AutoCAD shall not be used

6.0 Drawing Borders

Electronic versions of the blank drawing borders in model space are available on request from the QP
Data Center. Additionally they are available from Engineering Standard CD of [1]. For listing of these
borders refer to Engineering Standard [1]. The drawing borders are set to actual ISO Standard A
sizes.

6.1 Drawing Units

Setting shall be as shown below:-

6.2 Drawing Grid & Snap

Standard borders shall be set to a grid of 10 and snap of 5. This may be changed to suit the drawing
development, typically when producing scaled drawings.

All P&IDs, Flow diagrams, Logic diagrams, Isometric drawings, SLDs block diagrams and the like
shall be prepared using grid and snap mode. The grid and snap toggle mode shall be set to ON when
creating objects or entities in these types of drawing.

All drawing borders shall be set to drawing grid limits.

6.5 Line Thickness

Drawing line thickness shall be standard for any given function or specific purpose. Line thickness is
dependent on the colour assigned to each pen and the actual thickness used for each entity. The
following default settings shall be used:

Colour Line Colour Line

Setting Thickness Setting Thickness

Red 0.25 Grey 0.35

Yellow 0.35 Dark Red 0.25
Green 0.50 Dark Yellow 0.50
Cyan 0.70 Dark Green 0.35
Blue 0.35 Dark Cyan 0.35
Magenta 0.50 Dark Blue 1.00
Black * 0.35 Dark Magenta 0.35

* Shown as white on screen.

6.6 Plot Configuration

The plot configuration settings include pen assignments, plot area, scale, paper size, and rotation.

All pens shall be set to number 7 when plotting a black and white output. All lines shall be set to
object line type. Colour values distinguish different line widths or weights when assigned to pen
numbers in a pen plotter, designjet, inkjet or raster printers.

The pen width setting shall be for drawings plotted to a scale 1:1.

6.6 Plot Configuration (Continued)

All engineering drawings shall be plotted on either Extents or Limits parameter.

6.7 Layers, Colours, and Line types

All objects or entities are always drawn in a layer. It may be the default layer or a QP customised
layer. QP customised layers are associated with the colour, line type and line weight.

Layers can be created for each required grouping, colours and line types assigned to those layers shall
be in accordance to Appendix A. Standard borders are already associated with some of the layers with
assigned colour and line types. Any number of objects and layers can have the same colour number.
ES.0.01.0015
Revision C
Page 10
6.7 Layers, Colours, and Linetypes (Continued)

The user can specify the linetype scale for objects. The smaller the scale values, the more repetitions
of the pattern are generated per drawing unit. For QP standard borders [1], the linetype scale factor is
set to a default of 12.

6.8 Symbols

Standard symbols shall be used in accordance with Engineering Standard [1]. These symbols are
available as AutoCAD electronic entities (AutoCAD blocks) and are issued with Engineering Standard
[1].

In some instances additional symbols may be required. If so the symbols originator shall issue the
proposed symbol(s) to the custodian of this standard for approval. The proposal shall include
representation, symbol name and types (i.e. size, block name(s), shape etc.) and any references to
international standard(s). The proposal shall be supplied in both electronic and hard copy form.

2) The above layering system caters for Oil and Gas Industry only. Layers for Architectural,
Landscaping and Building Services are more complex and multiple. These will be subject to
separate guideline, which is under development. Until such time of its approved issue those
involved with AutoCAD design services with respect to Architectural, Landscaping and
Building Services should forward the intended layering system to be used to EED for
review and approval.
