POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

Electronic Devices Policy:

Every instructor/lecturer at KKU/KKUIC has the authority to restrict or prohibit the use of personal
electronic devices in his or her classroom, lab, or any other instructional setting. It is expected that
instructors will communicate, both verbally and in writing via course syllabi, their policies regarding student
use of electronic devices. It is also incumbent upon instructors to make reasonable accommodations for
students with disabilities through the Student Disability Services office.

While the technologies may change, examples of such technology include, but are not limited to, computer
hardware and software, cellular phones, personal digital assistants (PDAs), programmable calculators, and
portable recording devices of any kind (audio or visual).

While students may, with instructor approval, use personal electronic devices in the classroom to take
notes or do work that is relevant to the class, the following activities are considered disruptive to student
learning and are
generally prohibited when the class is in session unless specifically authorized by the instructor:
1. using personal electronic devices to engage in any activity that violates KKU/KKUIC policies and
procedures.
2. using personal electronic devices during examinations.
3. using personal electronic devices to cheat or plagiarize.
4. communicating with others via e-mail, instant or text messaging during class time using cell phone,
computer, or other electronic device, unless expressed permission is given by the instructor.
5. engaging in any research, work, or Internet surfing not authorized by the instructor.
6. recording or transmitting via audio or visual technology any lecture, tutorial, written material or
other type of class material without first obtaining the instructors consent.
7. duplicating, storing or transmitting material that violates copyright law.
8. accessing, creating, distributing, or transmitting abusive, slanderous, libelous, discriminatory,
sexually explicit, or pornographic material.
9. harassing, bullying or threatening another individual.
10. vandalizing, damaging, or disabling property of KKU/KKUIC.

N.B. (Please note): All electronic devices are prohibited in this class at all times unless special permission is
granted.

6
Examination Regulations, Rules, and Punishments:

Examination Regulations
Failure to attend an examination is excusable for the following reasons:
1. Accident involving serious injury (documented proof required).
2. Serious sickness that requires hospitalization (documented proof required).

Students may leave the examination room, if they experience the following:
1. Sudden onset of serious illness.
2. An event or emergency that requires the student to leave the examination room.

The university examination board will thoroughly examine and investigate any
instance where a student leaves the room during an examination.

Examination Rules
1. Students are not allowed to enter the Examination Hall before permission is granted.
2. Students who are late not more than 30 minutes after the examination has begun must seek
permission of the examiners and give the signature for acknowledgement of the act.
3. Students are not allowed to bring mobile phone, calculator, lecture notes, texts and books in the
examination hall unless written permission is granted by the Lecturer.
4. Students are only permitted to leave the Hall at least 45 minutes after the examination has begun.
5. If there is evidence or proof of cheating or attempting to cheat, the student must sign the
acknowledgement form. Two examiners then give a written report to the Chairman of the Examiners'
Committee.
6. Students are required to immediately stop writing on the examination paper when examination's
time is over.

Punishments
Students who do not follow the rules and regulations are considered intentional violators and attempt to
cheat in the exams. Violators are to be given the following consequences:
1. Failure in that specific subject.
2. Failure in every examination that the student has already taken in that current semester.
3. Failure in every subject in that current semester and disciplined according to the disciplinary rules of
the University.

b. a record in the KKUIC Academic Dishonesty Register.

If it is determined that there are extenuating circumstances, the decision-maker may permit the student:
c. to re-submit the task, or (if the assessment task was an examination) to sit an additional examination
and may also
d. limit the mark for the re-submitted assignment or re-sat examination to no more than 50% of the
maximum possible mark for the assessment task.

2. The penalty for a second formal breach is:

a. a mark of zero for the assessment task, AND
