QUESTION 1: (25 MARKS)

(a) Define the term Business Process Re-engineering (BPR) and (10 marks)
explain the role of BPR in the context of Enterprise Resource
Planning (ERP).

(b)
Firms sometimes use Enterprise Resource Planning to
implement best practices in their organizations. Explain this (10 Marks)
statement.

(c) With the aid of a diagram, show how the three-tier architecture (5 Marks)
can be used to implement an ERP.

(a) Outline four major benefits of ERP implementation. (10 marks)

(b) An ERP integrates the organization as one functional unit.


Briefly explain the meaning of this statement. (10 marks)

(c) Integration might be a double-edged sword. Explain this
statement and illustrate your answer with an example. (5 marks)

QUESTION 3: (20 MARKS)

Suppose you are the Chief Information Officer (CIO) of a multi-


national organization and you are making a case to the
organizations management for the implementation of an ERP
based on SAP R/3. However, the Managing Director finds the
cost of the ERP implementation, which is 3% of the
organizations annual revenue, excessively high. Write a
statement outlining both the tangible and intangible (20 marks)
accomplishments which the ERP will bring to the organization.
