Literature

Introduction:

Literature is a college preparatory literature and composition course. Focus works,

including novels, short stories, poems, and drama, have been selected for literary quality,
interest, and for their place in the historical development of literature.

If you have ever cried at a movie or a play or laughed at a story, you already know some
of the ways literature can make you feel. Literature is basically a communication in words in
human thoughts and emotions. Before most people could read and write, literature consisted of
stories and poems that people made up and taught to their children and grand-children. (In this
way, stories and poems are remembered for many years, passing from generation to generation.
Troubadours (singers who traveled from town to town) made these stories and poem more
widely known. Stories and poems that were writtendown could be copiedand distributed to other
towns and other countries. Because of this, writting came to be adopted as the best way for
literature to reach a large number of people.

Some kind of writting are not really literature, although they can be very important to
people. Expository writing is very common and useful kind of non-literary composition. Its main
purpose is to give information to the reader.

Schoolbooks are good examples of expository writting.

Persuasive writting
Another kind of non-literary composition, its purpose is to make the
reader believe one particular opinion or point of view.

Television commercials and newspaper ads are good examples of persuasive

writing.

IMPORTANCE OF LITERATURE
Literature is the foundation of life, it laced on emphasis on many topics from
human tragedies to tales of the ever, popular search for love. While it is physically written in
words, these words come alive in the imagination of the mind, and its ability to comprehend the
complexity or simplicity of the text.

PURPOSES OF LITERATURE

Literature can be both informative and persuasive, but it has other goals.
However, one of the main purposes of literature is to help pepole to understand human nature
and experience. Another important goal of literature is to entertain people. You enjoy reading
about other people and their experiences, and this reading often hepls you understand more
about people in general or yourself in particular. Throughout the ages, people have shared
certain characteristics. They love, hate, admire, pity. They are admired, sad, afraid, cruel, and
kind. Literature hepls people to understand these emotions and their reasons for feeling them.

Literature appeals to the readers emotions and imagination. Therefore, the writter
chooses the words, phrases, and approach (to his subject) that will excite his readers
imagination. A writter choses words for their sound and the thoughts people associate with them
as well as for their specific meaning.

LITERATURE

In its broadest sense, is any single body of written works. More restrictively, it is
writting considered as an art form, or any single writting deemed to have artistic or intellectual
value, often due to deploying language in ways that differ from ordianry usage. Its latin root
literatura/litteratura (derived itself from littera. Letter or handwritting) was used to refer to all
written accounts, through contemporary definitions extend the term to include text that are
spokenor sung (oral literature). Literature can be classified accordng to wether it is fiction or
non-fiction and wether it is poetry or prose, it can be further distinguished according to major
forms such as the novel, short story or drama; and works are often categorized according to
historical periods or their adherance to certain aesthetic features or expectations.
The concepts has change meaning over time; nowadays it can braden to have non-
written verbal art forms, and thus it is difficult to agree on its origin, which can be paired with
that of language or writting itself. Developments in print technology have allowed an
evergrowing distribution and proliferation of written works, culminating in electronic literature.
