Prelim: Laboratory Activity No 4

Research on Inputs to Feasibility Study (Systems Development Cost)

1. Objective(s):
The activity aims:
1. To identify the resources needed to complete project.
2. To research on the cost of each resource requirements.
3. To come-up with high level estimates for the development cost.
2. Intended Learning Outcomes (ILOs):
The students shall be able to:
1. Identify the needed resources to complete a systems development project.
2. Compute the systems development cost.

3. Discussion :
Development costs - one time costs that will not recur after the project has been completed.

These could be the following:

Personnel/Development team members. those who will develop the system. Should be able
to get the no. of hours they will work for the project and the prevailing rate per hour of the
personnel.

Trainings these are trainings needed by the development team related to the project. For the
end-users, this is the end-users training before their actual use of the system in their workplace.

Hardware these could be computers, servers, laptop, mobile, tablet, printers that are needed
during the development of the system. E.g. servers used during testing, computers/laptop by the
developers, etc.

Software these are the tools needed by the development team or the system itself. E.g. the
system will be developed using vb .net and SQL Server database. In this case, you need a
license of visual studio and MS SQL Server. If the Business analyst needs a MS Office or
specific drawing tool like MS Visio, then these are the softwares needed to procure for BA work.

5. Procedure:
Procedure:
1. List down the resource requirements for your systems development project.
2. Research on the prevailing rate or standard rate for each resource.
3. Estimate the total development cost, following the template attached.
