The problems of the Endocrine system

The human endocrine system includes eight major glands that produce and release
hormones, which help in controlling many important body functions, especially the body's
ability to change calories into energy that powers cells and organs. This system plays an
important role in all hormonal activities in your body such as growth and development.
Metabolism, which includes digestion, elimination, breathing, blood circulation and
maintaining body temperature, sexual functions, reproduction and mood. Each gland of the
endocrine system releases specific hormones into the bloodstream.
Endocrine glands are:
Adrenal glands - Two glands situated on top of the kidneys and release the hormone
cortisol.
Hypothalamus This is a part of the lower middle brain, which instructs the pituitary gland
when to release hormones.
Ovaries- these are the female reproductive organs that are involved in releasing eggs and
production of sex hormones.
Islet cells in the pancreas- These control the release of the hormones insulin and glucagon.
Parathyroid- they are 4 small glands in the neck that play a role in bone development.
Pineal gland- A gland which is linked sleep patterns.
Pituitary gland - This gland is called the "master gland" because it influences many other
glands, especially the thyroid gland.
Testes. The male reproductive glands that produce sperm and sex hormones.
Thymus. A gland in the upper chest that helps develop the body's immune system early in
life.
Thyroid. A butterfly-shaped gland in the front of the neck that controls metabolism.
Even a small defect in the functioning of any of these glands can ruin hormone balance in
the body and lead to endocrine disorder. Endocrine disorder treatment is highly important
for the proper functioning of glands. There are many reputed hospitals that deal with
endocrine disorders treatment in India. Endocrine diseases are usually treated by
controlling how much hormone the body generates. If the problem is the low generation of
a hormone, it can be treated with the help of hormone supplements. There are different
types of Endocrine disorders. Diabetes is one of the most common endocrine diseases.
Other endocrine disorders include:
Adrenal insufficiency: This is a condition when the adrenal gland undersecretes the
hormone, cortisol, and sometimes, aldosterone.

Cushing's disease: People or children who take high doses of corticosteroids may suffer
from this disease.

Gigantism (acromegaly) and other growth hormone problems: When the pituitary gland
produces too much growth hormone, the bones and body parts of a child may grow
abnormally fast. If growth hormone levels are too low, a child may not grow properly.
Hyperthyroidism: This is a condition which occurs when the thyroid gland produces too
much thyroid hormone, which causes nervousness, weight loss, fast heart rate, sweating.

Hypothroidism: When the thyroid gland does not produce enough thyroid hormone, it
leads to constipation, dry skin, fatigue and depression. The underactivity of this gland may
also slow down development in children.

Hypopituitarism: This condition is when the pituitary gland releases little to no hormones.
It may be caused by a number of different diseases.

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS): This condition occurs when overproduction of

androgens interferes with the development of eggs and their release from the female
ovaries. This is one of the main causes for infertility.
