SCADA systems were first used in the 1960s and are now coming under
scrutiny from security perspective. In the post 9/11 era the Department of
Homeland Defense has specified concern over unauthorized access to these
sensitive legacy systems. Breaches in access have already been noted and
will continue to increase unless necessary security precautions are taken.
Western DataCom has a cost effective solution for securing these portals
using existing PSTN lines or existing IP connectivity.
PSTN
The CryptoCom 2000 Secure Modem and LineGuard 9000 Remote Port
Monitor are an ideal solution designed to meet the most stringent security
requirements. Taking advantage of a common infrastructure, the public
switched telephone network, the CryptoCom 2000 uses 168-bit Triple DES to
secure communications over pots (plain old telephone system) lines. This
Secure Out-of-Band communications method requires no changes to
existing software applications a simple replacement of existing clear text
modems solves the problem.
IP or Frame Networks
Western DataCom also has a solution available for SCADA networks that
utilize an IP based network infrastructure. The IPE-2M and IPE-10M are
PC/104 IPsec encryptors that utilize either Triple DES or AES encryption to
build secure tunnels for IP communications over any number of wide area
network connections (Frame Relay, Wireless or fixed land line).
