Automated Measuring Procedure for: Biochemical Oxygen Demand Procedure

Please check and approve the automated measuring procedure. If the measuring procedure is not according the
expected procedure, please indicate the differences or explain the desired measuring procedure.

Biochemical Oxygen Demand Procedure:

1. Samples are pipetted into the BOD bottles#,

2. The identity and the dilutions are entered into the sample table and bottles are placed in the racks and
placed on the analyzer#,
3. Analyzer is started by operator#,
4. The bottles are de-capped# (for automated de-capping, see option 4)
5. The manipulator sets the Oxygen probe in position and bottles are filled with ATU#, Seed# and dilution
water#, (for automated addition of diluent water, ATU and seed, see options 1, 2 and 3)
6. Sample is then stirred, and the initial Oxygen value is measured,
7. The bottles are re-capped# (for automated capping, see option 4)
8. The Oxygen probe and stirrer are rinsed,
9. The Oxygen probe and stirrer go to the next sample and follow the same procedure until a value is recorded
for all samples,
10. The sample racks are placed in a 20C. incubator for 5 days#,
11. After incubation the racks are placed on the analyzer and the bottles are decapped# (for automated capping,
see option 4);
12. Analyzer is started by operator#,
13. Sample is then stirred, and the final Oxygen value is measured,
14. The BOD value for each sample is calculated. The data can be presented on screen, printed or converted
to a file compatible with other software and LIMSs.

Note: Procedure step marked with # is performed by the operator.
