100 Communication is almost always effective. Very understandable with little or no


listener effort.
Only minor errors, but generally good control of language studied in the course. Delivery is
generally smooth, quite clear and coherent. General performance definitely meets course

95 Exceeds lower band; does not quite meet upper bands criteria

90 Communication is generally effective. Understandable with little listener effort.


Some errors with language studied in the course, but these do not usually seriously affect
communication.
Delivery may have pauses and/or be choppy and slow sometimes.
General performance adequately meets course expectations.

80 Exceeds lower band; does not quite meet upper bands criteria

75 Communication is only somewhat effective. Somewhat understandable, but listener effort


generally required. Possibly makes frequent errors with language studied in the course.
Delivery may have prolonged pauses and/or be choppy or repetitive.
General performance is slightly below course expectations.

(Based on TouchStone 3 Second Edition - Units 1-6)

You will practice these topics during class activities.


In the oral exam you should try to speak as much as possible. Dont worry
about mistakes because your grade is based on how well you communicate.

Topics for Mid-Term Oral Exam (Units 1 - 3)


Say what kind of personality you think the ideal friend would have/the ideal boyfriend or girlfriend.

Tell your teacher what kind of personality YOU have.

Describe people you know who are PATIENT, GOOD, CAREFUL, TERRIBLE, RECKLESS, etc. use
examples to support your descriptions.

Think of someone you really admire. Describe that person to your teacher.

Think of different people you know who have some of these qualities: aggressive, ambitious, bossy,
cheap, confident, emotional, fair, gentle, impulsive, independent, mean, optimistic, pessimistic,
proud, sensitive, supportive, or truthful. Which of these are positive qualities? Which are negative?

Write every day. Use a special notebook or a computerif you have


access to one. Get in a quiet place. Write the date at the upper right
hand part of your entry. Then, before the class, read it to yourself. Is
it what you want to say? Add details for other readers. Use your best
penmanship. Your classmates will read your work and give their
opinions. Your writing must have a minimum of 100 words
(approximately 10 to 15 sentences)
Writing Log # 1 Who is someone you really admire? Write about
his/her qualities, personality and any other facts,
you consider important about him/her.

Writing Log # 2 Write about what you would like in the future: a
place you would like to go someday, a person youd
like to meet, or something youd like to do. Include
