COLOR CONCRETE
I) CONCRETE ACID

HISTORY

For a long time, resistance, workability and durability were the essential characteristics of
the concrete, leaving aside the aesthetic aspects, why it was conceived as a gray and cold material.
However, it is fashionable and is considered a versatile material, able to take any texture, shape,
size or color.

The technique to color the concrete was developed after World War II, and initially applied
in prefabrication, until the early 80s when he began to be used directly on site.
CONCEPT

Is the current common concrete but the supercie coated with a layer of acid which oxidizes the
concrete and gives the desired pigmentation depending on the dye

The concrete to acid usually used as acid as the composition of what is hydrochloric acid dyes
could affect specific armed.

I) CHEMICAL COMPOSITION

The acid is typically diluted (muriatic acid) hydrochloric acid is mixed with metal oxides or trace
mineral particles being so small as to penetrate into the capillaries of concrete size.

It is composed of three basic components:

1. Metal ions: When in contact with the free lime in the concrete, produce a permanent color
change.

2. 1.5% Hydrochloric Acid: The acid is penetrating agent for concrete suffer oxidation with metal
ions not only in the surface but also within a couple of millimeters deep

3. Water: Water is only to expand the material over a larger area in a controlled manner.

REACTION WITH CEMENT

Concrete Acid Stain is not a paint or coating, rather, it is a coloring process that involves a
chemical reaction between the dye and cement. It is a solution made with water, salts, inorganic
acids, which react with the minerals in the cement or concrete surfaces (Concrete), the result of
this reaction is the color. It works great on new or old concrete impressive results. The acid dye
is a product of durable color and appearance, while it is protected with a sealant. It can be
applied both indoors and outdoors. The most common colors are red or brown oxide type,
green, blue, yellow and dark brown

II) COLORED CONCRETE

For a long time, resistance, workability and durability were the essential characteristics of the
concrete, leaving aside the aesthetic aspects, why it was conceived as a gray and cold material.
However, it is fashionable and is considered a versatile material, able to take any texture, shape,
size or color.

Definition
Concrete whose formulation includes pigments based onmetal oxides obtaining
a uniformly throughout the mass of concrete color. Comply with all requirements
ofworkability, mechanical strength and durability of concrete. Are
available from resistors 210kg / cm2onwards and base colors: red, green, yellow and white
with their respective colors

Pigments

Valid natural pigments are derived from metal oxides and almost exclusively, ferrous and ferric
for the range of black, red and yellow, and ocher oxides.
There are two kinds of pigments. Those obtained from natural deposits of minerals and
synthetic manufacturing.

The natural pigments are naturally colored earth oxides or metal hydroxides, especially iron,
among which the best known are the ocher.

calcined at high temperature and passed through successive screens to reduce particle size and
control its color. The calcined natural soil is sieved to achieve a uniform grain size, and the
manufacturers of these pigments must ensure that the particles have a regular dimension.

Valid natural pigments are derived from metal oxides and almost exclusively, ferrous and
ferric oxides for the range of black, red, yellow, and ocher combined with the previous two,
titanium dioxide for natural white and chrome oxide to obtain the green. Only, guarantee pure

minerals not affect the resistance.

Uniformity of cement

Because the color of cement varies even between batches of the same manufacturer,
the changes also affect the color of concrete, so we recommend using cement from the
same manufacturer in the whole work.

-AGREGADOS <-> A. Especially fine is

necessary to intensify the mixing

OTHER FACTORS -AGUA/CEMENTO <-> a mayor cantidad de

agua incrementa luminosidad, factor negativo

IN THE COLOUR WATER / CEMENT <-> more water to increase luminosity,
negative factor in structural elements

Concrete benefits to acid

staining was performed on polished concrete

Best architectural finish

Improvements in work time

Reduction of the work items

It covers larger areas with majolica

Among the benefits of using color include:

The durability of the coloration.

The chemical stability of the pigments.

Under normal environmental conditions the tone does not suffer significant changes.

They represent an economic alternative.

The chemical stability of the pigments.

Avoids the risk of overlapping pieces detachment

CONCLUSIONS

Both options give a better architectural finish and durability in color. Time and money which
is sought in all civil works already not only would only use in buildings but in other works such
as sidewalks, curbs, gardens, sports slabs saves, etc Both options give a better architectural
finish and longer in the color. Saves time and money Which is Sought Already in all civil works
would only use not only in buildings but in other works Such as sidewalks, curbs, gardens,
sport slabs, etc.
