PAPER-1, Mathematics (Class-XI)


Time allowed: 3hrs. Max Marks: 100

General Instructions-All questions are compulsory.

The question paper consists of 29 questions divided into three sections,A, B and C. Section
A comprises of 10 questions of one mark each, section B comprises of 12 questions of four
marks each and section C comprises of 7 questions of six marks each.
Section A
1. If R is the set of real numbers and Q is the set of rational numbers, then what is R-Q.?
2. Let f = { (1,1), (2,3), (0,-1), (-1,-3)} be a linear function from Z into Z. Find f(x).
3. The minute hand of a clock is 1.5 cm long. How far does it tip move in 40 minute? (use
=3.14 )
4. Find the multiplicative inverse of 2-3i.
5. Solve 7 x+3 <5 x +9. Show the graph of the solution on number line.
6. Find the number of different 8-letter arrangements that can be making from the letters
of the word DAUGHTER so that all vowels do not occurs together.
7. A committee of 3 persons is to be constituted from a group of 2 men and 3 women. In
how many ways can this be done?
8. Find a if the 17th and 18th terms of the expansion (2 + a)50 are equal.
9. If 8 times of 8th term is equal to 11 times of 11th term. Find its 19th term.
10. A line through the points (2,-6) and (4,8) is perpendicular to the line through the
points (8,12) and (x,24). Find the value of x.

Section-B
11. Solve 2cos2x + 3sinx = 0.
12. Find the domain and range of the function given by ( x )=1|x 3| .
13. Taking the set of natural numbers as the universal set, write down the
compliments of following set:
(i) { x : xN 2 x+ 1> 10 }
(ii) { x : xis a natural number divisible by 35 }
14. Prove the following by using PMI-

this be done when the committee consists of- (i)At least 3 girls. (ii) Atmost 3 girls.
19. The coefficients of the (r-1)th, rth and (r+1)th terms in the expansion of (1+a)n are
in the ratio 1:7:42, find n and r.

22. Find the equation of line perpendicular to the line x - 2y + 3 = 0 and passing through
the point (1,-2).

of the line.

23. In a survey of 25 students, it was found that 15 had taken mathematics, 12 had
taken physics and 11 had taken chemistry, 5 had taken mathematics and chemistry, 9
had taken mathematics and physics, 4 had taken physics and chemistry and 3 had
taken all the three subjects. Find the number of students that had:
(i) Only chemistry.
(ii) Only mathematics.
(iii) Only physics.
(iv) Physics and chemistry but not mathematics.
(v) Mathematics and physics but not chemistry.
(vi) Only one of the subjects.

26. A manufacturer has 600 liters of a 12% solution of acid. How many liters of a 30%

more than 15% but less than 18%?

A solution of 8% boric acid is to be diluted by adding a 2% boric acid solution to it. The
resulting mixture is to be more than 4% but less than 6% boric acid. If we have 640
liters of the 8% solution, how many liters of the 2% solution will have to be added?
27. The second, third and fourth terms in the binomial expansion (x+a) n are 240, 720
and 1080, respectively. Find x, a and n.
28. The sums of n terms of two Arithmetic Progressions are in the ratio 5n+4: 9n+6 find
the ratio of their 18th terms.
29. If p is the length of perpendicular from the origin to the line whose intercepts on the
