Bricks and Construction

Bricks are crucial raw materials required in every type of construction work, but which type of brick one
should use in a specific type of construction work is important to know. Bricks come in different shapes,
sizes, and materials. Heres all you need to know about bricks.

Burnt Clay Bricks

Burnt clay bricks are used for construction purpose. These bricks are generally made using moulds in
which clay is filled and dried and then baked or fired in the kiln. Burnt bricks are usually not visually
appealing, they need an application of plaster. They can withstand extreme heat and therefore use in
construction projects involving thermal, chemical, and mechanical stress.

Sand Lime Bricks

Sand lime bricks are made by mixing hydrated lime and sand. The mixture after being pressed in the
moulds treated in the high pressure steam autoclave. These bricks are smooth gray and have aesthetic
advantage. Sand lime bricks are also a better option for load bearing construction projects.

Concrete Bricks

Concrete bricks are produced by using solid aggregate concrete. They are pressed in the mould and treated
by steam. These bricks are made under lower pressure steam. Concrete bricks are generally used for
facades, fences, basement walls, foundation walls etc.

Engineer Bricks

Engineer bricks are thicker and stronger. They have the lowest risk of water absorption. These bricks are
produced under high temperature. They are used in civil construction projects involving chemical
resistance, high load bearing capacities, and damp-proof features.

There are different types of bricks but burnt clay bricks are considered perfect for the construction purpose.
The bricks used in construction should have uniform shape in order to provide a strong foundation. Bricks
are selected based on their applications, strength and other factors.
