Introduction
Engineering colleges in India are producing thousands of engineers every year. For these thousands
of aspiring engineers, there are hundreds of engineering colleges that boast of providing quality
education to these buddying minds. However, a larger chunk of these aspiring minds dont want to
get into any such engineering college that boasts of its quality education. Therefore, they vie with
each other through various national level entrance exams, which are ticket of entry to reputed engi-
neering colleges. Among some of the most sought-after national level engineering exams, JEE
Main/JEE Advanced stand at the helm. Every year, 12-13 lakh students appear for JEE Main. While
appearing for the coveted engineering examination and afterwards, their minds are occupied with
various queries. One of these could be their aspiring minds wanting to know what chance do they
stand to grab a seat at the premiere institutes National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian
Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) and other Government Funded Technical Institutes
(GFTIs). When such a huge number of spirants appear in JEE Main, it becomes imperative for them

Seat Matrix at Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs):

With a total 10,006 seats across 19 IITs, every candidate dreams about getting into one of the 19
IITs. However, candidates can only be admitted to 10,006 seats available across all the IITs. IIT
Kharagpur admits maximum number of students -1,341, while IIT BHU offers admission at 1090
seats and IIT Roorkee at 1030 seats. Seat Matrix for the 19 IITs can be understood from the table

seats, NIT Bhopal offers admission at 937 seats, and the total number of seats at NIT Calicut is 937.

Technology (IIITs):
IIITs are also the institutes of national importance. Out of a total 2228 seats available across all the
18 IIITs, Pt. Dwarka Prasad Mishra IIIT Design & Manufacture Jabalpur offers admissions at
maximum number of seats, ie: 300, followed by IIIT Allahabad and IIIT Design & Manufacturing,
Kancheepuram which offer 297 and 240 seats respectively. For detailed seat capacity at all 18 IIITs,

Institutes (GFTI):
Out of a total 3,920 seats across all 18 Government-funded Technical Institutes, Birla Institute of
Technology, Mesra and Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, Shibpur both offer
735 undergraduate engineering seats to aspiring candidates, while Institute of Technology, Guru
Ghasidas Vishwavidyalaya, Bilaspur has a seats capacity of 400 and Gurukula Kangri
Vishwavidyalaya, Haridwar offers 368 UG engineering seats. Seat capacity at rest of the GFTIs can
