Title of Article: The Sociology of the Professions and the Problem of Journalism Education

Author: Anderson, CW

Journal Name: Radical Teacher

Date of Article: Spring 2014

The problems surrounding journalism education are ones that stem mostly from the fact

that there have been and continue to be several cutbacks on newspaper and TV newsroom
jobs. Because of the lack of job opportunities for journalists, some individuals are even starting

to doubt whether or not journalism can even be considered a profession anymore. Journalists

are trying to figure out a way to resolve this issue. Since the majority of journalism influence

comes from being on the job itself, faculty members of schools are trying to reevaluate the way

they prepare their journalism students in the classroom. The solutions they came up with

include requiring students to either be in a classroom setting that now focuses on

communications research ideals, or one that focuses on preparing them for the uncertainty of

employment. Faculty and staff members will be put in positions where they need to choose

which of these routes to take with their students. Either way, the main thing that students must

be made aware of is the undeniable fact that there are issues surrounding media literacy.

before they actually begin in the workplace. It is understood that operating room nurses are

constantly put in situations that would be considered high-stress. Because of this, their ability

to manage time well is challenged. After this was studied, it was undeniable that time-

management training increased job satisfaction. For operating room nurses in particular, it

helps them know what to expect when they are given a certain task and only what would seem

like a limited amount of time.

Harry reflects on the writing process of this album, and he explains that he wrote and recorded

the album in Jamaica in order to be far away from any distractions or outside influences. This

album is one that features Harry at a vulnerable and independent phase in his life. The reason is
the first time for him to really be in charge and make musical decisions for himself. He mentions

the fact that he recognizes his fans opinions hold a lot of influence in his music success. He

acknowledges that even the teenage girl fans hold some of the most intelligent opinions on his

music.
