Assumptions (What do the students already know which should help you with your aims? - think about
their background, likes/dislikes, level etc. )

I assume the students are Upper-Intermediate. All the students work and will find familiar the problems
described in text. Moreover, the text is autobiographical and inspirational, the author is a famous person,
and I think many students have Apple products, so the text can provoke interesting conversations.
Timetable fit (how does your lesson link to / build on other lessons? - consider what your fellow trainees
have taught or will teach and how it can be relevant to your lesson in terms of language, skills or topic)

This lesson is logically linked to other lessons for Upper-Intermediate students: we had lessons on reading
throughout the term; my lesson will be further developing students reading skills.

Anticipated Problems and Solutions

Part One
1. List any potential problems for learners with language: form, meaning, pronunciation.
2. Show how you plan to deal with potential problems with language.

PROBLEM SOLUTION
Some students will be late as my class will be the first one. I will start with a lead-in, also, I plan to teach vocabulary after
reading for gist, not before it. The vocabulary will stay on the
WB. Then we will have reading for specific info, and only
then reading for detail.
Some vocabulary items may be challenging; some students I will pre-teach vocabulary, also some transcription and
may also be wanting to clarify/translate some parts of the text. further explanation can be given on the spot individually
when students will be reading. I will also explain that students
do not have to know every word to understand the text
(though I think they will want to understand every word as it
is natural ). I will tell the students they can use dictionaries
if they want (as Harmer recommends there should be a
compromise between the teacher and the class).

Part Two
1. List any potential problems for learners with tasks.
2. Show how you plan to deal with potential problems with tasks.

PROBLEM SOLUTION
Reading tasks may take more time than I expect. I will try to be realistic at planning and flexible with stages at
class. I think that reading for detail may be much longer as it
is a summary (the format unfamiliar to our group) and the
task is rather challenging, so Ill probably have little time for
speaking and in this case will cut it and discuss only the most
relevant/interesting questions.
Some students may wish to speak at length. I can use some of their ideas for feedback and extending
language. We can also further discuss the topic (and even read
some more parts of the address by Jobs) at our last TP on
Wednesday.
Note: These boxes are not designed to be limited. Extend as needed.
