GT Strudl
AFES Program has developed an interface between AFES and Georgia Tech CASE's GT STRUDL.
You will be able to bring important information such as support coordinates and reactions generated by the
superstructure program into the AFES Foundation Design program.

The figure below is a GT Strudl superstructure sample model.

To import support data from GT Strudl program, Hard lock & GT Strudl program should be installed first in
your computer.

Click on the Create New Structure button.

Add: New Structure Name dialog window will appear. Input structure name and then click on the New

Click on the Geometry button. Geometry dialog box will appear. Select GT Strudl from the
structure analysis program list combo box.

Text box that is indicating the path of gtstrudl.exe or gtstrudl28.1.exe is shown below.

Click command button to navigate the directory in which gtstrudl.exe or gtstrudl28.1.exe files can
be found.

After choosing any of them, the full path is as below. Example) C:\Program
Files\GTStrudl\28\Programs\gtstrudl.exe Or C:\Program

Click on the Import button. Dialog window for input structure data of GTStrudl will appear.
Navigate to the directory in which the input file is located then select the file and click on the Open

Import from Structural Analysis Program dialog box will appear. Select the Load
cases/Combination import from GT by toggling on the corresponding check box. Select the
foundation type that will be placed on the footing or mat to be analyzed and/or designed from the
Apply Foundation type drop-down list box and then click on the OK button.

The following message box is shown. Click on the Yes command button.

GT Strudl program is opened, and executes the analysis on the corresponding superstructure
automatically. Also, the analysis results file (*.rec and *.4LG) will automatically generate after
successful analysis.

The following dialog box will appear after closing GT Strudl program.

You can select any or all of the load cases and load combinations by toggling on the corresponding check box,
and then click on the Save button.

The geometry data are automatically imported from GT Strudl analysis file.

The dialog box below will appear after clicking on the Load Case/Combination button.

The load case dialog box displays the load case name and values on the supports. The imported load case
and values can be verified by clicking on the Load Case button.

The import wizard will automatically convert the values into the coordinates system used by the AFES
program in order to complete the foundation design and analysis.
The coordinate system of AFES is as follows:

Note: All loads at the top of pier are assumed to act at the center of the pier.

Imported load combination and load factors can be verified clicking on the Load Combination

Note: For the imported load combinations, half is for stability check and the other half is for reinforcement
and shear check.

Load combination can be changed by choosing Elastic Strength or Ultimate Strength on the toggle button.
