Assignment
The IEP Analysis Assignment of SPED 775 was an assignment that required me to select,
read, and understand a specific students IEP. After selecting the student and becoming familiar
with the IEP we were then required to write a detailed description of the student, observe and
take notes on the student, analyze the IEP, create a MAPS based on interviews with the parent
and student, and come up with ideas to improve the program and instruction of the student. For
the assignment, I chose one of my current students, Susan. The assignment was broken into five

Purpose
The purpose of this assignment was to increase my knowledge and skill in planning and
implementing effective instruction based upon knowledge of the student. One of the main
responsibilities of a special educator is writing IEPs that reflect the student and meet their needs.
This assignment allowed me to analyze one of my students IEP from an outside perspective,
become closer to the family and student in the interview, and revise my current plan and program
to meet the needs of the student. It was meant to ensure a deep understanding of the IEP process

IEPs and decisions within the process. By looking at the student information, analyzing
observations, and creating a revised plan based on ideal circumstances I was able to alter my
current instruction to better meet the needs of the student. This assignment was, to me, one of
the most beneficial of the whole program. I write IEPs on a weekly basis and by breaking down
the process and parts I was able to increase my knowledge and understanding of the bigger
picture when it comes to writing plans for students. As I wrote IEPs, and continue to write IEPs,
I am more knowledgeable and thoughtful because of this assignment. My IEPs are better
