Tips for Successful TEACH Lessons

1. Use time efficiently!

Getting organized with the laptops/devices is not FREE TIME. Its lesson time from
the moment you come in.
Make sure the students are occupied while the computers are being distributed and put
away by using:
An off-computer activity such as: T2K worksheet connected to the lesson, notebook
work, frontal work etc
A quick round of questions and answers using the platform frontally (1:Class) to
review previous lessons
Screen student generated content from the Gallery to encourage or make
corrections, review and scaffold. This eases the transition into the current lesson
from previous ones.

2. Use reports data:

Make statements that show you are on top of things:
From the lesson reports I see that only 5 of you finished your homework. Joe, why
didnt you finish what I asked you to?
From the alerts I saw that Q2 from lesson 4 was giving you all trouble so I reset it
and want to review it with you before you do it again.
Going over your work from last lesson I saw that X was not clear. I reset it and gave
it to you on a note.
Based on the questions you asked last lesson, I added a short movie to todays
lessons which I think youll find useful. You will be able to see it in the Summary
section of the lesson when you get there. At the moment there is a Stop Line so
you need to wait.

2. Connecting:
Ask students to connect the moment they get their device.
Teacher: follow this with the attendance pop up and make some encouraging
comments to show you are on top of this process

3. Routines:
Establish a routine for students who want help from the teacher or the technician
(i.e. hand up and wait patiently).
No calling-out!

4. Class Management:
Give clear instructions before the students start individual computer work.
Use Pause & Follow Me right from the start.
Activate Stop Line after 1-2 sequences to show you are in charge of the process.
Stop the lesson to do frontal scaffolding when you get the Alerts or Monitoring data.
I can see that you are having some issues with this or that question/issue/notion
From the progress monitoring (Who is Where), discuss pacing with the necessary
students.
Call students over to your desk and show them THEIR mistakes on your computer,
then reset and let them do it again. Make sure to follow up so students see you are
on top of class issues, namely students learning progress, achievements and
processes.

5. New Activities:
Whenever there's an activity that is new to the students or more complex than usual,
Pause, project the activity on the screen and do a quick demo before releasing it for
the students.

6. Lesson structure:
T2K lessons, with their sound pedagogical backbone, have an engaging opening
and a closure. Begin your lesson with an engaging activity/ oral routines and always
leave time for closure (summing up what was learnt). In this way your students will
be engaged, understand their learning processes, be clear about the content
covered and find lessons relevant. Furthermore, their sense of self-efficacy will rise
which, in turn, will affect their achievements and their sense of self-worth.
