& SUGGESTIONS
Prd 2: See Period 6 of LP dated Aug. 12-16

Prd 3: NO CLASSES

Prd 4-5: NO CLASSES Gr. 8 Guidance Test

Prd. 6:
EXPLORE and EXPLAIN

I. Objectives
A. Cognitive Teachers Reflection
1. Define the different major branches of biology
____________________
2. Relate biology to everyday life
3. Enumerate the various applications of biology ____________________
B. Affective ____________________
1. Realize the importance of studying biology ____________________
2. Exhibit appreciation towards the subject matter __________________.
3. Manifest respect to all forms of life
C. Psychomotor
1. List questions that pertain to biology
2. List ways on how one can apply his/her knowledge in biology
3. Check task sheet

II. Subject Matter

Biology: Its Branches and Various Applications

Valuing: Appreciation of Knowledge

III. Materials: pieces of colored paper, TS 2 (Branches and Applications of

Biology)

IV. Procedure

A. Motivation
CLS/Round Table. Students list their questions regarding anything that
concerns biology or life. Students write their questions on a metacard
which they post on the board. Encourage students to continue to seek
for questions and answers. AskWhat is the consequence of the fact
that biology is a broad science? Elicit the concept that Biology is a
broad science and that it is subdivided into many branches.

B. Presentation
CLS/Think Pair Share; TAC (Picture Reveal). A student clicks on the
computer which slowly reveals the picture. The goal of the students is

to identify what the picture is with the least clues possible.

The students then identify the branch of biology that specifically deals
with the subject (see table above).

Biologist-for-a-Day (CLS/Brainstorming). Students pretend to be

biologists. They propose ways on how to solve the hypothetical
problems by applying the principles that they know in science and
biology. Students then determine the disciplines in which the knowledge
in biology can be applied.
[1] There is an outbreak of a certain disease. The cause is not yet
known. Medicine
[2] There is shortage of rice it the Philippines. Agriculture
[3] Scientists found traces of life in Mars. They want to find out more if
life indeed exists in the red planet. Space Science/Biology

Students list ways on how they can apply their knowledge in biology in
their everyday lives.

Students check TS 2 (Branches and Applications of Biology).

C. Processing
Q: What unites all these branches of biology?
Q: How does biology become technology?
HOTS: If you are to work on a certain area in biology, what would you
choose? Why?
HOTS: How do you apply your knowledge in biology in your everyday
life?
HOTS: What are the biological issues that concern the society today?
Q: How is biology applied in the areas of medicine? Agriculture?
Genetic engineering?
Value of Knowledge Appreciation: What is the best thing about
learning biology? What is the role of biology in the society?

D. Synthesis
CAC/Reflection. Students write a short reflection by completing the
statement I am a young biologist because I . . . !
