Note that it was not the suffering victim but the demon who had to be directly
rebuked. It may be that he indirectly rebuked the boy and the demon went out of
him because it was owing to his sins that the demon had oppressed him.

• Chile Verde Dinner hosted by our parish on July 17 brought $____. The cost of
the dinner was a gift of Don and Margaret Dean. Thank you, Don and Margaret and to

• Pilgrimage 2010 – to the Eparchial Shrine of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in
Olympia, Washington, August 20-21. Join Bishop Gerald, priests and faithful from
throughout the Eparchy for a spiritually refreshing and rejuvenating weekend. Divine
Liturgies, Matins and Vespers, a spiritual conference, and the Holy Mysteries of
Penance and Anointing of the Sick will highlight the weekend. The Byzantine
Challenge (contest) and children’s activities are also planned. See the shrine newsletter

• The 76th Annual Pilgrimage in Honor of Our Lady of Perpetual Help will be
held at Mount St. Macrina, Uniontown, PA, September 3-6, 2010 (Labor Day
Weekend). It holds the distinction of being the oldest and largest Byzantine Catholic
Pilgrimage in the United States. The Sisters invite you to join the many who will come
to honor Our Lady of Perpetual Help at this most blessed weekend! For further

On Friday we celebrate the feast of Transfiguration of Our Lord, no abstinence or
fasting is observed on that day.
August 1st marks the beginning of the Fast before the Dormition of the Mother of God,
traditional fasting period, the fasting discipline is like during the Great Fast. Observation
of this fast is voluntary.

Sacramento Events to note …


All night vigil for life at St. Rose Parish at 5961 Franklin Blvd. On August 6, the first
Friday, beginning with 7:30 PM Mass. Confessions held prior to both Messes. Msgr.
Kavanagh leads Holy Hour of Reparation to the Sacred Heart of Jesus immediately
following the Friday Mass. The vigil ends on Aug 7, with Benediction at 7:30 AM and
Mass at 8:00 AM. Following the Mass, the Sorrowful Mysteries of the Rosary and the
Divine Mercy Chaplet will be prayed at the Women’s Health Specialits-Abortion Clinic
at 1750 Wright St. Come and pray for our country and the end of abortion. Any questions
