ASSIGNMENT 2
1. Fallacy of relevance: "If you don't believe in God, you'll never get well." It
is an example of a bad consequence and offers no evidence for the conclusion.
2. Fallacy of presumption: "Are you going to admit you're wrong?" This presumes
that the person asked will either admit or not admit being wrong but there is
already a presumption that the person is wrong.
4. Fallacy of ambiguity: "Dont fall in love because everything that falls breaks."
The word fall has two different meanings and the use of one is imprecise for the
other, i.e. falling in love is not literally falling.
ASSIGNMENT 3
1. appeal to emotion
A student seeks the approval of his/her professor for the approval of the former's
thesis. The student appeals to the professor's pride and to his ego. "Surely
someone as smart as yourself can appreciate my thesis proposal."
2. appeal to pity
Failing students who beg their professor not to fail them i their subject by
appealing to the professor's compassion: "My whole family is depending on me. If I
fail this subject I won't graduate and I will let everyone down."
3. appeal to force
Parents commonly warn their children against disobeying them: "If you can't follow
my rules, then you can get out of my house."
