LENGUHE CON MAIS

INTRODUCTION

Buying is the prevalent interaction occur around the world; without it man

cannot survive. it consist of at least twp person exchanging information - to

inquire and to persuade. Yet, to obtain the desired information each must have

the knowledge of the language used both the buyer and the seller to be

connected. With this, people from foreign land or even local areas within the

country having different dialects desired to engage in merchandizing are

having trouble in relaying the precise information needed.

PROBLEM

During the experimentation, the group decided to approach a woman selling

Mais (Corn on the cob) product. The group acted as if we were naturally speak

in different dialects.

The following is a narrative sequence of the conversation with the merchant:

As we approach the merchant, one us asked first,

In Spanish: Cuanto cuesta este? (How much is that?)

Seeing that he was ignored, one of us asked again,

In Tagalog: Magkano po 'yan ate? (How much is that, Ate?)

She was little bit confused yet answered "25 pesos" while gesturing two of her

fingers

Then the one speaking in Spanish asked,

"Podemos tener descuentos"? (Can we have discounts?)

He was still ignored.

Then the other one finally asked,

In Bisaya: "PIla gani ni, Ate?" (How much is this, again, Ate?)

Then she pointed out the corn having two kinds, 10 pesos for the purpple corn

and 15 pesos for the yellow corn.

Then the one speaking in tagalog interact with the group in front of the vendor if

they want to buy and how much do they need.

We bought the product, 2 purple corn.

We ended by saying "thank you" in different language together.

HYPOTHESIS

When a merchant interacts with the buyer having different language used,

he/she will repeatedly emphasize the price of the product alone knowing that

he/she cannot fully comprehend the query. Further, showing hand gestures is

their way to relay a message.

RESEARCH DESIGN

Speaking in Tongues Experiment

(Merchant and the buyer)

DATA GATHERING PROCEDURE

The experimentation was covered by audio recording with photo attached

here after. The narrative conversation was mentioned above.

DATA ANALYSIS

Body language is an expressed thought or feelings through gestures of hands or

other portions of the body by which some people used to communicate,

especially those with hearing disabilities. It is also a way to interpret ideas or

feelings which people cannot expressed in words.

Merchants are subject to interact with different buyers. They have to

communicate in order to provide the wants and needs of buyers as well as to

obtain profit. Yet, language is a means to relay a message and to receive

someone's thought. Having language barrier could stifle information for both

buyers and seller.

CONCLUSION

Language is a channel in which people interact through audible words. With

this, people are able to describe precisely what they need to know or what they

wanted to share. Words can depict things to point out mental picture to the

receiver that gestures or body language lacked.

The experimentation clearly shows a language barrier between the seller and

buyers having multiple dialects. It also shows how the seller interacts through
body language in spite of stifled information from the buyer, to obtain a profit.

Body language is the means for merchants to communicate with their buyers.

Thus, the experimentation provides an overview how people having different

dialects able to interact despite the lack of clear information received.
