Level 2 Designing from Scratch

iCP Office Building

Level 2: Designing a Project from Scratch

Scope

The objective is to provide ubiquitous wireless coverage for all specified technologies
and frequency bands. The building is composed of 2 floors of open space offices,
executive offices, etc. Room for expansion of the network must be planned.

Assumptions

Equipment cannot be installed inside the elevator shafts.

Hardware (antennas and accessories) can only be installed within the corridors,
walkways and lobby/open area.
Installing hardware inside the rooms is prohibited.
Front end equipment should be located on Floor 1 as shown in a later image.
Any splitters/combiners required on Floor 2 should be mounted in the telecom closet
where the riser is located as shown in a later image.

Technical Requirements

Frequency bands/Technologies:
850 MHz Cellular, GSM, 1 channel
2100 MHz AWS, HSPA, 1 channel

System Requirements:
System Source Type: Base Station Sector
System Output Power: 30 dBm per channel

The GSM system is assumed to meet the design criteria, if the AWS system meets
them.

Design criteria for 2100 MHz AWS:

Leave the default HSPA Shared Control /SCCH at 10%.
Dominance over macro network:10 dB on 95% of the area
Outdoor signal measured around the building: -70 dBm

Workshop Instructions

A) Open a new project file and name it Level 2 Design from Scratch.

B) Floor plans for Floors 1 and 2 are included. Import the floor plans and walls as
specified below:
For the image file, include :
- Heavy Wall
- Lift
- Lightwall
- Stair
For the walls file, include :
- Heavy Wall Concrete (Heavy)
- Lightwall Drywall
- Lift Metal

C) Place the reference point in an appropriate location on each floor.

D) Scale each floor plan as indicated in the image below:

E) The riser (telecom closet) is located at the top right corner near the elevator and
stairwell. Mark it with an appropriate pushpin on each layout plan.

F) The front end equipment location is on Floor 1 as shown in yellow below. Mark it
with an appropriate pushpin on the layout plan.

G) Draw a Horizontal surface (Concrete-Heavy) on both floor plans and define it as

Indoor Area and Prediction Area.

H) To model the stairs leading from Floor 1 to Floor 2, draw Inclined surfaces
(Concrete-Heavy) on the Floor 1 horizontal surface and holes (Pure Air) on the
Floor 2 horizontal surface.

I) To model the floor of the elevator in Floor 2, draw a metal horizontal surface for
the elevator to replace the concrete.

J) Create the systems as per the above technical requirements on the design plan
and combine them with an appropriate Generic device.

K) Place Generic omni antennas on each floor and connect them appropriately to
the combined systems using Generic components. Make sure all output Pilot
powers from the antennas are approximately 6 dBm (Use Automation Cable
Replacement and Splitter Balancing).

Consider only the 2100 MHz AWS system for the following steps.

L) When your floor designs are complete, perform the actions below for floors 1 and
2:
a. Create a Signal Strength Map, with Compliance Criteria of Min -75 dBm RSSI
over 95% of the area and run the prediction.
b. Create a RSCP Map, with Compliance Criteria of Min -85 dBm over 95% of
the area and run the prediction.
c. Create a Dominance over macro Map, with Compliance Criteria of Min 10 dB
over 95% of the area and run the prediction.
d. Create a Best Server Map with minimum Threshold of -75 dBm and run the
prediction. Activate the prediction between floors and run the prediction again.
Does the prediction between floors have an effect on the resulting output
map?
e. Create an Interpolation Map with Given Value = -70 dBm and run the
prediction. Compare it with the Dominance over macro map and determine
whether the results represent RSSI or RSCP.
f. Create a Maximum Achievable Data Rate map, considering outdoor
interference at -70 dBm, with Compliance Criteria of Min 7.2Mbps over 95%
of the area and run the prediction.
g. Create a Mobile Tx. power Map, with Compliance Criteria of Max 0 dBm, 95%
of the area and run the prediction.

M) Run the Compliance Report for applicable maps and make sure all are
compliant.

N) Cleanup the Design Plan using Design Plan Organizer.

O) Save the project file as L2C13_DFS.ibw.
