KEY TERMS:
Indentured servants: Young unemployed or people who were forced out of England and
voyaged to America to help in Tobacco farms.
Headright system: Induced that if anyone payed the voyage of this laborer he would get 50
acres of land
Bacons Rebellion: Led by Nathaniel Bacon joined farmers and planters who werent given what
promised
Royal African Company: Slave trade system set up in the borders of Africa
Middle Passage: The passage between West Africa and America were many slaves died
New York Slave Revolt: 1712 when slaves fought for freedom, 21 African slaves died
South Carolina Slave revolt Stono River: 1739, 51 African slaves marched along the Stono river
to get to Florida for freedom.
Congregational Church: Puritans combined their religious and governmental needs
Jeremiad: Preachers said they had been giving gods grace granted their membership to church,

Half-way Covenant: The new formula of Church membership, 1662
Salem Witch Trials: Trials about girls being bewitched in Salem that resulted in 20 lynched
women.
Leislers Rebellion: Rebellion between lordly landowners and merchants in NYC.

William Berkeley: Virginia governor, sad ruler, was given West Jersey
Nathaniel Bacon: Led a group of Virginians attack Indians because they disliked their rulers
relationships with the Indians
Anthony Johnson: African slave that was able to buy his freedom And even became a
slaveholder.
