Today I will be speaking on the topic inventors and inventions. The word invention has its
origin from the Latin word invenire which means to discover. Inventions have
played a vital role in the evolution of mankind and society. From the stone-age invention of
the wheel to the modern age computer life has always evolved around the inventions.
eing a commerce student I would to talk about three ma!or inventions which have
completely reformed the present day business environment. Firstis the invention of
cellphone which has accelerated business communicationsat a remarkable pace.
"ommunication is the back bone of any system and this has become convenient with the
invention of cellphone. The #rst cellphone was demonstrated by $ohn F. %itchell and
%artin "ooper of %otorola in '(). The second most important invention is the concept of
*lectronic %oney. This idea of digital cash was coined by +avid "haum and later developed
by ,ay,al. It has not only brought convenience but also security the business world.
"omputers the third invention invented by "harles abbage has changed the working
environment. *very task related to a business right from creating company accounts to
maintaining a customer inde to marketing can be performed easily on the computer. I
feel that inventions have touched almost every phase of human life and have brought a
/ualitative change in the lifestyle. The in/uisitive human nature will always yearn for more
and this will always be an ignition for inventions in the future as well
3. What themes were common among the states of the Pacific Rim? Countries along the
Asian coast that were often referred to as the Pacific Rim allhad similar themes of rapidly
expanding populations, economies, and a Confusion likementality that was employed. The
countries of Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, South Korea, and the little tigersof
Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong all were known as the Pacific Rim countries and theyall
had similar themes in their growth following WWII. All of these countries had a
rapidlyexpanding population that always benefited from an expanding education system.
All of the Pacific Rim realized that better education meant that better innovations and
ideaswould be born, leading to better manufacturing and industrialization. All of the Pacific
Rimcountries also featured expanding exports and industrialization, which led to their
rapidgrowth. All of these countries also had similar cultures and belief styles, which
allcentered on the Confusion idea of state above self. Workers were expected to be
fiercelyloyal to their companies and coworkers, and they were all taught that what they did
wasfor the greater good of the country. The government was heavily involved and
activelyparticipated in industry and the economy, often times giving support to the
privatecompanies, much like in South Korea where the government supported the large
growthof Hyundai, a major car manufacturer that brought many jobs and boosted its
economy. This didacticism soon began spreading to other areas of Southeast Asia and
they toobegan to experience rapid land, population, and economic growth. All of the states
in the Pacific Rim also focused on product manufacturing andimproving that manufacturing
process. Countries like Taiwan developed high tech andspecialized manufacturing plants,
which was helped by the higher education provided bythe government. One of the biggest
and most common themes though among all of thePacific Rim states was the fact that the
economic and political success of the countryrested on the shoulders of the working class,
who were often under-paid and overworked. In countries like Taiwan and South Korea,
innovations and the economic growth wouldnot have been possible without the long hours
put in by the dedicated and government-serving working class. They were so willing to do
so because of the whole Confusionmentality discussed above. 4. What accounts for the
