others for a variety of external factors. Most teachers will tell you that they
dont have favorites, but the truth is that there are students who possess

A long time ago, a little Dalmatian puppy sat outside the fence at
the school. The puppy loved watching the children play. He
wanted to play with the children, but he was very shy.
One day, the puppy followed two children home from school. He
curled up under a tree in the front yard to take a nap. Suddenly,
he woke up, and when he looked up, he saw that the children's
house was on fire. The puppy knew he needed to get help. He
ran down the street to the fire station, barking all the way.
The puppy saw the firefighters jump on their trucks and leave.
He tried to run behind them, but his little legs could not keep up.
When he got back to the house, he looked all around for the
children but could not see them. He was very worried.
Story continued 06
After the fire was out, the firefighters noticed the sad-looking
puppy shivering under a tree "Look, it's the little puppy we saw
at the station." Firefighter Janet scooped up the puppy in her
arms "Hey, little guy, where do you live?
"I know," said Firefighter Janet, "let's take him to see the family.
I'll bet he could cheer up the kids," said the firefighter. She
knocked on the door. The puppy could barely believe his eyes!
The children were safe! They hugged the puppy and he wagged
his tail.
"Do you know who this puppy belongs to?" asked the firefighter.
"He's a real hero, he ran all the way to the fire station to let us
know there was a fire at your house. Yes he is mine they cried!

requirements to 'Get on well with people', and to 'Work with and
through others' become increasingly important.

Teamwork involves working confidently within a group,

contributing your own ideas effectively, taking a share of the
responsibility, being assertive - rather than passive or aggressive,
accepting and learning from constructive criticism and giving
positive, constructive feedback to others.

Attitudestowardsmoney 03
Whether were keenly aware of it or not we all hold typically pretty well-
ingrained attitudes toward money. We may have inherited our attitudes
toward money from our family of origin, or from financial experiences in
previous marriages or relationships, or from our own personal life
experiences. Wherever and however your attitudes toward money were
shaped, they influence your decision-making. The same is true for your
new spouse. And its very possible in fact, likely that you hold
somewhat, if not entirely, different attitudes toward money. Perhaps one of
you is fearful of running out of money while the other is more relaxed.
Maybe one of you is consistent about paying bills on time while the other
doesnt worry about late fees or not paying bills in full. You will also
probably have to deal with some of the emotional fall-out from how your
previous ex-spouses dealt with and made decisions about money.

Reading Teenage feelings 05

Friends from our childhood or adolescence are special, no matter how much
time has elapsed between visits. These compelling connections are the result
of shared roots during the formative years. Our childhood friends and
teenage sweethearts experienced with us all the wonderful, horrible, boring,
and embarrassing moments that helped to make us who we are today.
Yet, when children are young, parents may regard these relationships as
insignificant. If the family must move to a new community and the children's
close friends must be left behind, so what? They will make new friends, the
parents assure them. But, is a friend as interchangeable as a new toy for an
old one, or is there more to friendship than that? Why are we so elated to
rediscover long lost friends in our adult years if, as some parents believe, they
were so dispensable to us as children?
Questions and answers: Teenage feelings 06

Advise, persuade, suggest Self-study 07
Please look at the following suggestion.

When writing to argue, persuade and advise, you are offering

ideas to other people. However, each style does this in different
ways. If you argue, the writing tends to look at both sides and
come to a conclusion. If you persuade, it tends to be one-sided,
making your ideas the only sensible choice. If you advise, it tends
to be softer, guiding someone towards your ideas.
Suggest, advise Self-study 08
Suggest = to put forward an idea.
For example:
Your question suggests, you are sincere in learning.
A suggestion is put forward to the superior.
The clerk suggests something to his boss.

On the contrary, Advise often means inform (somebody) of something or make a

proposal, declare a plan for something. An advice is often given by a Superior to
his junior.
For example:
Please advise us when the goods are dispatched.
The boss gives advice to his lower level worker.

Fashion
What is fashion? 02
Fashion is a popular style or practice,
especially in clothing, footwear,

textile designers. Because the more
technical term costume is regularly linked
to the term "fashion", the use of the
former has been relegated to special
senses like fancy dress or masquerade

This day is considered as a better-to-forget event for NASA. With the crew
of seven, Columbia was returning to earth, after completing a scientific
mission of 16 days. Within a matter of seconds the environment changed
into a tendril of dismay. Everything was finished when the mammoth
shuttle changed in a fireball and finally disintegrated over Texas. Later, it
was revealed in the investigation that from the external fuel tank, a piece
of insulating foam was peeled off and due to which the interior of the wing
was penetrated by the hot gases. The intense heat destroyed the shuttles

Events
What are romantic events? 02

Romantic events are situations that people

feel loved, and wanted.
The human body enjoys these events.
It can be triggered by different situations,
or even by just a few words too!
Everyone is an individual, so they vary
greatly.
We will cover a few in the next slides from
the most obvious like weddings, to the
simplest like just remembering important
dates, and sending kind romantic words to
the ones we love most of all.
Is romance dead, or does it live?
Understanding romance
Cute Things 03
Teddy bears are romantic. Puppies are romantic. Cherubic baby archers are
romantic. Those photographs where two little kids exhibit an unnatural affection
for each other and only the roses are in color are romantic.
Low Light
Candles are romantic. Sunrises and sunsets are romantic. Any kind of low light,
you see, is romantic, hence why dinner dates after dark are more romantic than
lunch dates at noon. Combine low light sources, and it stands to reason that the
air of romance will be so thick, your beloved will be blind to anything else but the
radiance of her shimmering knight in armor.
Red
Red is romantic, because red is the color of love and passion. Consider roses. Red
roses mean, "I love you." Yellow roses mean, "Let's just be friends," which is
synonymous with, "You are irritating, and I hate you." So you do not want to be
wrong. Get her red roses.
Background Music
Background music is romantic, and note the word "background, because not just
any music is romantic. For music to be romantic, it must be too soft to hear. Also,
it may not be lively or funny or good. Elevator music is the most romantic genre of
music out there.

Eye contact. Some of the most powerful and successful business leaders in
the world are known for the impressions they make during face-to-face
meetings. Their gaze never wavers from the eyes of the person they are
speaking with, making them feel as if they are the most important person in
the room. With a little practice, anyone can do this.
Are you making good eye contact throughout the conversation? Or are you
looking behind the person to see who else is in the room?
Arm movement. If you are speaking to someone and your arms are in a
position that gives even a subliminal hint that youre not interested, youre
not going to give off a positive impression.
What are your arms doing? Are they folded, signifying boredom, or tucked
behind your back, indicating interest?

SHALL WE DISCUSS THIS?

Word power 04

Keeping healthy is good for you!

Try to exercise and eat organic food, do you do?

Reading Organic foods 05

Organic produce contains fewer pesticides. Pesticides are chemicals such as

fungicides, herbicides, and insecticides. These chemicals are widely used in
conventional agriculture and residues remain on (and in) the food we eat.
Organic food is often fresher. Fresh food tastes better. Organic food is usually
fresher because it doesnt contain preservatives that make it last longer.
Organic produce is often (but not always, so watch where it is from) produced
on smaller farms near where it is sold.
Organic farming is better for the environment. Organic farming practices
reduce pollution (air, water, soil), conserve water, reduce soil erosion,
increase soil fertility, and use less energy. Farming without pesticides is also
better for nearby birds and small animals as well as people who live close to
or work on farms.
Discuss the following topics below 06

Why is organic food better for you??

Reading: Corporate welfare 06
Politicians and pundits talk about welfare as if its solely cash given to people.
Hardly ever discussed is corporate welfare: the grants and subsidies, the
contracts and cut-price loans that government hands over to business. Yet
some of our biggest companies and industries operate a business model that
depends on them extracting money from the British taxpayer. The operators of
our supposedly privatised train services are kept afloat by billions in public
money. Or take the firm created by billionaire Jeff Bezos: last year it emerged
that Amazon had paid less in corporation tax to the UK than it had received in
government grants.
Name two corporate benefits?

Who is Jeff Bezos?

Delaying
Retirement
What is retirement? 02
Retirement is the point where a person stops employment completely. A
person may also semi-retire by reducing work hours.
Many people choose to retire when they are eligible for private or public
pension benefits, although some are forced to retire when physical conditions
no longer allow the person to work any longer (by illness or accident) or as a
result of legislation concerning their position
Vocabulary around retirement 03
Pension. This is money saved through a scheme to enable you to receive
money when you retire. The age of retirement differs from country to
country.

work. For example the average working week in England is 40 hours. If you
retire, this is reduced to 20. It gives you more time to relax at home.
What age would you like to retire?

find this better because they find being at home a Little boring.
Word power 04

Things you can do when retired. Lets discuss.

Reading Delaying retirement 05

Postponing your retirement typically means more money for a more

comfortable retirement. Working longer will help you put away more money
for retirement. If you work a few more years, you'll not only add to your
existing savings, but you'll avoid spending the money you've already saved in
the meantime.

You may live longer than you think. According to the National Center for
Health Statistics, out of all 65-year-olds in America today, about 1 in 4 will live
to age 90. For the average 65-year-old couple living in America today, you can
double the odds that at least one will live to age 90. With many people living
into their 90s, savings often need to last a long time after retirement.
