Department of Health Profile

The Department of Health (DOH) holds the over-all technical authority on health as it is a
national health policy-maker and regulatory institution.

Basically, the DOH has three major roles in the health sector: (1) leadership in health; (2) enabler
and capacity builder; and (3) administrator of specific services. Its mandate is to develop national plans,
technical standards, and guidelines on health. Aside from being the regulator of all health services and
products, the DOH is the provider of special tertiary health care services and technical assistance to health
providers and stakeholders.

Together with its attached agencies, the DOH constituted of various central bureaus and
services in the Central Office, Centers for Health Development (CHD) in every region, and DOH-retained
hospitals performs its roles to continuously improve the countrys health care system.

The Department of Health (DOH) has designed the Nurse Deployment Project to improve local
health systems that will support the countrys attainment of Universal Health Care or Kalusugan
Pagkahalatan. The project hires registered nurses (RNs) under a contract of services that shall be
assigned in the following areas: Rural Health Units (RHU), Birthing Homes, Barangay Health Stations
and Level I LGU hospitals with priority deployment in the 20 poorest provinces and 1,233 focus
municipalities of the National Anti-Poverty Commission (NAPC) and the Department of Social Welfare and
Developments (DSWD) Pantawid Pamilya Program (3Ps) or Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) areas.
Consequently, the project shall require partnerships with other agencies and organizations like the
Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), the Professional Regulation Commission Board of
Nursing (PRC-BON), Philippine Nurses Association (PNA), counterpart regional/provincial offices and the
Local Government Units (LGUs).

Job Description:

Works alongside the patient's physician, other nurses and midwives within the unit and participates
in monitoring and evaluation of effective and appropriate nursing strategies. My duties and
responsibilities are:

Nurse Deployment Project - Nurse 1:

a. Assists in the implementation of various health programs of the Local Government Unit in
accordance with the program goals and objectives of the Department of Health and the
Health Sector.
Number of Pre-Natal and Post-Natal Care attended and given services
Number of Facility Based Delivery
Number of Infant Immunized and Fully Immunized
Number of mothers encouraged/motivated of exclusive breastfeeding
Number of Family Planning acceptor advocated and counseled
Number of Tuberculosis cases tracked and enrolled in TB requesting followed up
Number of Hypertensive and Diabetes Mellitus patients screened and followed up
Number of health teachings done
Number of patients/families visited at home
Number of people age 25 yrs old and above screened on HPN and DM
Number of persons with disabilities and senior citizens attended and given services

b. Provides technical assistance in the implementation of the health programs.

c. Assists in the conduct of disease surveillance.

d. Conducts health education and training.

e. Assists in the supervision and monitoring of the Community Health Team (CHT).

f. Assists in the conduct of regular monitoring and evaluation of the various health programs for the

h. Submits monthly accomplishment report and DTRs to the CHD for Baguio City and to the
Provincial DOH Offices for the provinces on the 5th day of the following month through the Public
Health Nurse describing the highlights of activities, targets and accomplishments, learning
insights, issues/concerns and recommendation.
