Information to discuss

What teachers want to teach what?

Please write your name in the category you would like to teach.
o Primary ELA - Denise
o Primary STEM- Katie
o Intermediate ELA-Amber
o Intermediate STEM- Julie
o ENCORE tech person- Kevin

Will we have enough staff? Last year we had about 50-60 students come
Thoughts on this? Kevin- Staffing looks fine with me, Denise - we had 6 teachers
last year. 2 taught primary, 2 taught intermediate and 2 taught encore/stem. I think if
we need an extra ela/math teacher 1 could handle tech/encore. I taught encore/tech
one year by myself and was fine.

Teacher schedule and work day

o Last year 8:00 - 3:00 (teacher work day)
o Students 8:30 - 2:30
o Schedule from last year is attached below. Please put your name if this looks
like a workable schedule again.
Denise - I added a possible schedule for primary below. Just a
suggestion. Let me know what you think.

o 1. Kevin
o 2. Amber
o 3. Katie
o 4. Denise
o 5.
o 6.

The structure last year?

o Julie and Denise are the experts. Do you two see anything that may need to be
modified in anyway.
The only thing I can think of is we may need more classrooms. If we are
teaching separate subjects (which is totally ok with me) we will each need
our own rooms. It may get confusing to have both Stem and ELA taught
at the same time in the same room. I like having each of us teach an
area. It will allow for smaller classes and we can group the students a
little more closely. We will just need a classroom for each of us. (Last
year we team taught and only needed 3 classrooms. Like I said, I like
dividing the classes into even smaller numbers. With pre-k being added
this year, I dont see how we can teach pre-k to 2 in the same
classroom. The kiddos I recommended have a difficulty time even writing
their names.)
Location -- will depend on custodian schedule. Will select one hallway to group all the
classes together. Will probably need 5-6 classrooms depending on the number of
teachers teaching.

Planning
o We have $2,700 in the budget for pre-planning
Denise - The past several years we divided the planning budget among
the teachers. We then recorded planning dates to cover the cost. We all
then took that time on our own to plan, gather materials and set up the
classrooms. We usually got our planning checks I think sometime in June
or maybe July. (Julie do you remember.)
o Teachers will need to give a pre-assessment and post assessment where the
students will hopefully show great growth.
Think of ideas or destinations
My Thoughts each day can be a continent (7 Days), 1 Day for
Ocean, 1 Day for Volcano, 1 Day for Stars/Space. Thats
currently 10 days but we can most certainly change it to meet your
needs...you guys will be the ones teaching it :)
Any other thoughts for additional destinations? Please record
Kevin- I like the destinations.
Denise - I like the idea of destinations, just want to make sure we
have enough materials to cover all 10 days on different topics. I
am thinking books and any other materials.

2 more ideas of destinations?
Can use Ipads!

Supplies
o Currently looking into Virtual Reality Viewers and IPod touches
o We have $1,800 to spend on supplies.
This does include purchasing the VR viewers and IPod touches.
Need to figure out what each teacher is able to spend on supplies I will
get back to you on this.

Incentives, Thursday Ideas, and Final day

o Creamery
o Star Lab? We would need to pay Chris out of our budget to come. Im thinking
the last day of summer school as the culminating activity.
o Budget $40 per hour for this. Check to see if he still has a star lab.
Kevin- Chris use to come to Springfield with the STAR lab for
free. Paying because it is summer? Yes, he is a 10 month employee
o Oriental trading for rewards and incentives
o Other ideas?

Additional Incentive for staff -- Be in charge of the distant learning Google

Classroom. One primary, one intermediate. This will help with summer loss for the
ENTIRE MVE and compensation would be available. Please speak with me if this is
something you may be interested in. Wanted to offer it to the summer school crew
before its open to the rest of the staff.
o Kevin- I would be interested in this.
o Courtney - interested :)
